MCVet,

Don't just depend upon what you read on the front page above the fold. A lot more is going on under the surface, and Al-Sadr is the man who is losing his grip on power.

"This Cleric has a Tremendous following in the Shiite Group."
No, that's should be, "This cleric HAD a treemendous following in the Shiite group". While he is the "leader" of a certain branch of the Shia in Iraq, many of his milita leaders have been distancing themselves from him, and his mass demonstrations are now sparce compared to what they were only 2 years ago.

Many Sunni Sheiks in Anbnr and other parts of Iraq are looking to make their peace with the Iraqi government, and are turning on al Qaeda. The Sunni's are not a monalithic group all working together. They are a number of different factions, all seeking their own place at the table.

The Kurds are probably the most united group, and even they have their splits.

While I'd agree that this government would have trouble lasting very long without outside support, I'd disagree that we should just leave them to their fate. Another Somila would not serve anyone's interest except the Iranian's and al Qaeda.

Muqtada al-Sadr's puppets have quit the Parliament because Iranian influence is not wanted by the Iraqi nation.

What difference does that make? The US has thrown it's options in the toilet and flushed. How long can you sell and make excuses for a never ending war to hold on to the Persian Gulf? Sure, in the short run it made a few a lot of money, but the risk of losing it... You won't have the money to buy your safety. That Gulf is your Fort Knoxx. Your labor is worthless and gold is silly. Gold is not a fuel or a food.

Let's Look at some of the things Bush supporters have bought lock, stock and barrel:

1.) Iraq's got WMDs

2.) Alleged Iraq attacked us on 9-11

3.) "Bring it on"

4.) We will be welcomed with flowers and candy

5.) Oil will pay for the Iraq War, $450 billion dollars later

6.) Al Quaeda is in its death throes

7.) We've captured Al Quaeda's #2 (at least five or six times)

8.) Iraq is at a turning point (at least six if not more times in Presidential speeches)

9.) We're going to get Bin Ladin "Dead or Alive" and later recanting and saying "oh, I don't think about him much"

10.) Anyone (Rove) caught exposing an undercover CIA agent won't be working in my administration then using Scooter Libby as the "Fall Guy".

11.) During Katrina, "heckuva a job Brownie" before he half a clue what was going on.

12.) "We don't use torture" before hiring Alberto Gonzalez to legalize it.

13.) Pat Tillman was an American hero killed by Al Quaeda, more than a year later because of his parents efforts revealing that he was killed by "friendly fire".

14.) "We lost five million e-mails"

15.) "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq 3 years ago.

Now who in their right mind would still believe this administration about anything? Can you spell G-U-L-L-I-B-L-E?

Does it REALLY matter? This isn't horse shoes, horseshitt, or hand grenades. "Close" doesn't count. The people have spoken: He lost.

The Saegheh(lightning) fighter bomber. Shafagh(Aurora) stealth. They also have satellite launching capabilities and a secret submarine launchable plane.

Bush's Iraq strategy? Keep the troops there long enough so the next president has to clean up the Iraq clusterfu*k he created.

The monkey doesn't want to leave office as a "loser" no matter what the cost is in American and Iraqi lives, American prestige (assuming there's any left) and tax dollars.

Bush is a worst then a rabid monkey.

"What part about Bush do you ... hate most? all time low interest rates, all time high home value, all time high stock market, 4.6% unemployment, lowest casualty war ever, neutralizing Libya, killing of thousands of terrorists, liberating two countries, biggest public works appropriation ever passed, IRS all time high taxes collected, 46+ quarters of GDP growth...which part again?" Posted by badaxmofo

Interest rates have been at or below the 150-years "average" since the early '90s.

Home values have been on a continual rise over the past 100 years, as has the stock market.

Unemployment was at 4% when Bush took the helm; it's been steadily rising for the past 6 years.

46 quarters of GDP growth? Does that mean it started 11.5 years ago?

Actually the president has little to do with the success or failure of any of the above.

Being the "lowest casualty war" still doesn't justify it, since, as you know, Iraq didn't attack us. It IS about the oil.

What part do I hate? The part where my children and grandchildren (and yours) will be paying for Bush's "folly" for a very long time. In case you missed it, I'm talking about the highest deficit, ever. This is a direct result of our "War President."

Iran know the US and Russia are strategic partners. That's why they've begun making their own fighter jets(the thunder bolt) and even a stealth(the Aurora).

Besides Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, who are strategic partners of the US, the rest of the Middle East probably are stategic partners to take back the Persian Gulf.

Who allows US bases and who would never consider it....

"The 'will of the people' - if that 'will' was SO strong, then why did Bush lose LESS than the average number of Congressional seats than any other president during the midterms? Again, that was 'LESS THAN THE AVERAGE'...."

By my unofficial count,

Dems beat Repubs in the Senate 22-9
Dems beat Repubs in the House 42-29

That's a total record of 74-38 of races in 2006. That's just short of a 2:1 advantage in a country that's split 50/50 between Dems and Repubs. Sorry, but even Bush admitted, "that's a butt kicking". That's a result that doesn't exactly scream "approval" for the GOP. Maybe you should reconsider if your views are correct or not and in line with those of the majority of Americans.
