We waste money and put American lives at risk so this ******* can get his picture taken in an Iraqi market. He gets fodder for his political campaign at our expense. He should get sent a bill for all the costs. Such a war hero.

This reaction, compared to the reaction Nancy Pelosi got in Syria, paints a pretty clear picture of the way the world views America. Thankfully Americans are finally waking up to this disastrous reality.

Hopefully people are recording McCain's speeches 24/7 so we can play them all back during the '08 campaign, lest he try to change his inflexible position on the un-winnable war.

The phrase, 'Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.' applies to John McCain; he is one rude human being.

Give this guy the coveted "War Monger of the Year Award". He's earned it.

Bring McCain back from Iraq. He needs to do an inspection tour of all the VA Hospitals coast to coast.

Has candidate mccain reached the same level of unreality as the President? I saw him with a flak jacket on and surrounded by a hundred guards. A nuclear attack couldn't have hit him. He's trying to feed the American public the same hogwash we've been getting for four years now. John, you're out of touch, retire, go back to Arizona and play golf. For that matter, go to Iraq and play there as safe as it is.

McCain was a fine politician until he decided that he would like to be the next President.

Now he's showing his true colors.

t was clear to all assembled that the trip to Thieves Market in Shorja yesterday was a carefully orchestrated event by the U.S. military and Senator John McCain but many did not know it was specifically for CBS's 60 Minutes. Kirk Semple of the The New York Times went back a day later to discover that it was all a sham.

The junket wore body armor and was surrounded by over 100 members of the armed forces. Sniper patrols bristled from surrounding rooftops, six helicopters flew overhead and the " diamond" instead of being 4 people was 30 deep. In a classic psyops move, the entrourage was told to take their helmets off and even General Petraeus put on a forage cap.

A very tired McCain stayed on message and other junket members were there to back him up. What the American public did not know is that McCain's primary purpose is to get location and interview footage for a 60 Minutes segment with Scott Pelley to be broadcast this Sunday.

With Couric, CBS News now has the ethics of Fox News.

Sadly, even if Baghdad was becoming marginally safer due to the surge, it's obviously at the expense of the rest of Iraq. We have heard the charlatan in the White House tell us since 2003 that it's getting better, and this new McCain-spun tale is, at best, feeble.
We know our soldiers are busting their chops to make it work, and they are doing difficult jobs while having their tours extended. All United State soldiers in Iraq are to be honored, as they are doing the bidding of their commander in chief. To face facts that Iraq is a mess does not reflect poorly on our soldiers. It does reflect horribly on those who should've planned before pre-emptive ware, and it proves the locals do not care while America is still waste-deep in their troubles.

The story says "A U.S. Marine was killed in combat in Iraq's volatile Anbar province, the military said on Tuesday."

I'm sorry about the Marine.

Does this report mean that the news blackout is lifted on combat by US and UK forces and on casualties caused by this combat? Although, consistent with the blackout only a US casualty is reported. For all we know 200 Iraqis were killed in this engagement.

The blackout hasn't been mentioned by the media - I guess that is part of the blackout - but a person would be hard pressed to find a report of a US soldier or US fighting machine hurting anybody in the last 4 months. From the news reports it appears that the US and UK forces are shooting lollypops and kisses while the insurgents are blowing folks up.

I wonder if this is like the AP test of a news blackout on the Hiltons?

What a farce? McCain cut from the same cloth as the other Republicans. All spin / no straight talk on this propaganda express. The Iraqi merchants reacted with utter incredulity at the claims of bliss in Paradiso Baghdad. Can we have someone investigate what became of John McCain? They have taken his body and programmed him...too much Manchurian Candidate for me, perhaps.
