Spring break checklist for Congress: A plane ticket back home, chocolate (or matzo) for the family and a war spending bill for the president.

The last item might need to wait.

Senate Democrats beat back Republican efforts Tuesday to strip a key provision of the $122 billion wartime spending package that sets goals for withdrawing troops from Iraq %u2014 a significant turnaround from just two weeks ago, when the GOP defeated a similar withdrawal measure. The Republican amendment was defeated, 50 to 48.

The Senate will take a final vote before the Easter recess Thursday but is not expected to reconcile its version with the House bill until both chambers are in session April 16 %u2014 one day after the Pentagon says it must get the emergency funding for troop operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in order to avoid cutbacks.

The White House doesn't intend to accept the IOU quietly, accusing the Democratic-controlled Congress of skipping town before its work is done.

President Bush and Vice President Cheney have committed high treason against the United States of America and must be impeached and removed from office according to the rules and laws set forth in our Constitution.

They have claimed that they are no longer subject to the authority of the judicial or legislative branches of our government, and may ignore any law they wish at anytime. They have even claimed that the President may "sign" a law, while simultaneously signing another statement claiming he is free to ignore it. They have established a network of unconstitutional secret prisons, where both foreign and domestic citizens who have been illegally abducted are sent indeterminately, without charge or representation. Some have been tortured, and some have even been murdered. They have single handedly erased our sacred and traditional right to privacy by claiming they may place anyone they wish under surveillance at any time, even going so far as to specifically claim they may ignore FISA laws. They have started an illegal preemptive war that has needlessly taken the lives of more than 3,000 of our bravest and most noble fighting men and women.

And this is just the short list. Never before has America been faced with such an insidious enemy with more contempt for our Constitution and our American way of life, and these enemies occupy the highest levels of our own government.

Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, offered the motion saying all Americans %u2014 airline passengers included %u2014 must be protected from lawsuits if they report suspicious behavior that may foreshadow a terrorist attack.

"All of our lives changed after September 11, and one of the most important things we have done is ask local citizens to do what they can to avoid another terrorist attack, if you see something, say something," said Mr. King.

"We have to stand by our people and report suspicious activity," he said. "I cannot imagine anyone would be opposed to this."

Mr. King called it a "disgrace" that the suit seeks to identify "people who acted out of good faith and reported what they thought was suspicious activity."

Obviously, searingtruth.com is nothing but a gossip generator. If these statements were true, there would have been legal action taken by now. So, gossip=lies=political rhetoric=crackpots and America doesnt need that.

Check out the "about ST" section too, the clown wrote about himself in third person.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, opposed the motion over loud objections from colleagues on the House floor, forcing several calls to order from the chair.

"Absolutely they should have the ability to seek redress in a court of law," said Mr. Thompson, who suggested that protecting passengers from a lawsuit would encourage racial profiling.

"This might be well-intended, but it has unintended consequences," Mr. Thompson said ...

House Republicans tonight surprised Democrats with a procedural vote to protect public-transportation passengers from being sued if they report suspicious activity %u2014 the first step by lawmakers to protect "John Doe" airline travelers already targeted in such a lawsuit.

[...]

Republicans said the lawsuit filed by six Muslim imams against US Airways and "John Does," passengers who reported suspicious behavior, could have a "chilling effect" on passengers who may fear being sued for acting vigilant.

Can't right now. Got to go walk the dogs. They need to make their daily contribution to the RNC and what few supporters they have left. After all there's always a danger that they'll run out of sh*it to spew (though Bush never seems to?), so I'm ready to keep them supplied.

Once again the heinous Bush administration has simply been lying. There has unfortunately been no, let me repeat no, progress in restoring stability to Iraq, anywhere. Including Baghdad. In fact, things continue to get worse.

Senator McCain made some statements recently about how much better it suddenly was in Baghdad, even going so far as to say that there were now actually streets that foreigners could walk down without armed escort.

Well, I saw an interview with an embedded reporter in Baghdad yesterday who was flabbergasted by McCain's statements. The reporter said that the Senators statements were "incredible", and that he could barely even be heard over the gun battles behind him and the helicopters over him. He asked incredulously for McCain to tell him where these "safe" streets were, and to come over to Baghdad so that he and McCain could walk them together.

I bet McCain won't take up his offer.

The reporter said that no foreigner, especially an American, would last longer than 20 minutes alone on the streets of Baghdad.

In fact, the increase in American troops has simply caused an increase in violence across Iraq, as was warned, and as this story in Tal Afar indicates.

Remember fellow patriots, whenever the Bush administration moves its lips it's lying, on purpose, and as always.

Here goes the new taxes

* Taxpayers will face an estimated $29.7 tril-lion in unfunded Medicare liabilities. Accord-ing to the latest Medicare Trustees Report, the estimated total of unfunded Medicare benefits increased by $2 trillion in just one year.

* Taxpayers will pay trillions of dollars to cover the Medicare drug costs. The latest Medicare trustees' estimate of unfunded drug entitlement liabilities alone is $8.7 trillion over a 75-year period.

* Taxpayers will pay an increasing share of their income taxes just to keep Medicare afloat. Under current law and assumptions, Dr. Thomas Saving, a former Medicare public trustee (his term expired after the 2005 Trust-ees Report was issued), estimates that the pro-gram will consume 25 percent of all federal income taxes by 2020 and 50 percent of all federal income taxes by 2040.

What is the source of you definition? Did you make it up yourself?

The Pentagon's own estimates are that Al Qaeda represents less than 10% of the equation. They just lit the match.

Posted by micma at 02:17 PM : Mar 28, 2007

Actually, it comes from 50 years of experience. And since you confirmed the AQ presence, its pretty obvious that I hit it head on.

You still missed the foreign jihadist not determined to be AQ that are pouring out of the cracks in Iraqs borders from all the Islamic nations in the region. Islam pushes them to be martyrs, so they go kill women and children.

The surge, and the accompanying change in tactics, are exactly what the Dems have been screaming about for all this time.
I was under the impression that the "change in tactics" the dems were screaming for was to immediatly send all our forces in Iraq directly home.

As in, surrender. So yes, they disagreed with the way this war has been run, because of the fact that the war happened at all.

And now that the Administration has changed course, the Dems are ready to throw it out the window, declaring it a failure before it hardly begins.

Afghanistan is the graveyard of foreign armies, remember? Our military was going to be defeated by the brutal afghan winter. I forgot what happened after that

What irks me the most about activity like this is that the stupid liberals are totally unaware of it. They are making a buck, drinking latte, eating quiche or whatever and waiting for the NYT to tell them what they think. The Democrats can get away with this sort of thing because most of their voters won%u2019t ever know about it.
If they care at all about politics, they refuse to read or view any %u201Crightwingnoisemachine%u201D or Faux News sources and the MSM will describe this bill much differently than Mr. McQain did. That is why they are able to continue thinking that only those nasty Republicans are capable of cynical political trickery such as this.

And the smart liberals? I believe their thinking goes something like this: %u201CHey, what%u2019s the difference if a few troops die due to our stopping Bush versus the same number who might die making him a success? Making Iraq a failure, whatever it takes, is key to the establishment of a progressive society in America.%u201D

I look at a civil war as a conflict between factions within the nations government. Not al queda intiated religious violence. The foreign injection removes this from civil war, and puts it into an insurgency, or, an outside political faction (al Quada) attempting to destablize the existing, elected, government.

His mommy caught him on the pron sites again and sent him to bed for being a bad boy. Really people like him should grow up, get a life and move out of their parents basement.

Either that or he's desperately googling to try to find a definition of civil war somewhere that kinda, sorts, in a way fits his idea of one, instead of all of the normal definitions.
