"HERE ARE THE SENATORS UP FOR REELECTION IN 08"

22 GOP .. if more than 1/4 of them are reelected I'll be really surprise.

The only hope for the Republicans is a complete flush, sweep out all of the neo.con party heads. They must somehow be replaced with some real leaders to aspire to be like those of yore-- Lincoln, Roosevelt & Eisenhower to name few greats.

Whack-a-mole. Hit them one place and they'll just pop up somewhere else. An occupying army can not win a war of insurgency against a popular uprisings and in this case there are two popular uprisings (Vietnam), the Shia and the Sunni and both of them want us out. Solution? Leave. ASAP. Let them fight it out for themselves and don't give me this garbage that they'll come here to fight us. They don't want to fight us they just want us out. As for al Qaeda, well Saddam didn't allow them into Iraq and killed them when they tried, so there's no reason to think the Shia or the Sunni will either. Leave ASAP!

HERE ARE THE SENATORS UP FOR REELECTION IN 08 WRITE THEM OR QUIT COMPLAINING! ASK THEM WHO IS PAYING THEIR SALARIES? The longer we interject American military and money in the Middle East the longer the problems will exists. If America pulls out of the Middle East then the countries will have to work out their differences. 50 YEARS OF SACRIFICE IS ENOUGH! We cannot want peace in the Middle East more than those who live there!

Attacks Intensify Outside Baghdad

Well of course, because of our "BAGDAD SECURITY CRACKDOWN" there is not enough men to defend the area. There WERE NEVER enough troops to go into Iraq IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Iceman_1960,
very real what you said, nonetheless the actual Iraqi government is fighting other IRAQIs who are to stay there and be part of any future real represetative government to be if at all...

So reasonably speaking you don't want to 'kill', 'disable' and 'humiliate' your future partner in life before getting together, right?...

It's a delicate situation, and as per our missAmerica CondiRice famous for her birth pang comparison, you don't want to set benchmarks for the baby to be born before 'midnight' if the mother is not pushing enough...

Bush didn't listen to any of the previous generals in the past 4 years and now Patreus is the "Savior" of Iraq ! It's like the second coming of Christ and anybody that critisizes this new deployment are Un-American. The Iraqis have been fighting wars in their own country since 1400BC and we think we know more about war and their country then they do, we need an attitude adjustment!!

that's great idea! we should force the whole Middle East to eat German sausages - muslims and jews alike - then they will lose their "holiness" and become normal people again!

What we need are some old fashoned, a**kicking generals like we used to have in the good old days. These pretty boy generals with MBA's and no combat experience have totally mishandled this war.

Give me a cigar smoking, whisky drinking warrior over these candya**ed pretty boys any day of the week!

Here's what a respected general (that has no political or current career interest in Iraq) said: "Gen. William Odom told senators that the biggest source of instability in Iraq is paradoxically the presence of U.S. forces there.
Odom said that "withdrawal from Iraq" on "a serious and irreversible schedule, is the only thing that will change the polarity of the situation to give this president an opportunity to design a strategy that has some prospect of victory."

notblue-I saw that general also. That is living proof that the policy of "forcing the ones that disagree with you to retire and replacing them with bobbleheads" is alive and well at Bush central. It also shows that CBS is actually fair and unbiased.

Love the way people here at leftwing central cherry pick the news. I watched CBS news this morning and listened to the generals entire statement. He said there is no military solution ALONE. He stated there must diplomacy combined with military he also said that this war would last for many years and that Iraq and Afghanistan are the first two chapters in a world wide conflict. Funny how everyone here leaves the last part out, typical!
