More Attacks, Less Troops In Diyala Province As Military Focuses On Baghdad Crackdown
- There are just as many conservatives in the military as there are liberals.....
Probably more conservatives actually.

Demonization of the enemy is part and parcel of the conditioning and especially effective on the younger warriors.
It's difficult to convince people to kill others without giving them some demonization so that they can rationalize the act.
The older warriors know the game and don't fall for it. To them, it's more of a job than a campaign against the devil. - Reply to this comment
- This has got to be stupidest ******* "surge" of the Bush War ever. Publicized in advance, seems the strategy is to scare off the bag guys for awhile and then call it "success". Dumbest ******* WAR ever and given to thanks GWB & Neocons:

- -So this means the entire Marine Corps feels this way right former?

rick, you get down right ridiculous with your imposed extrapolations at times. I did not say that and you know it. Why are you so insistant on putting words in my mouth? I express myself clearly and concisely, in most people's opinion.
I do not correspond with each and every Marine in Iraq. But the ones with whom I do correspond can smell the coffee. - Reply to this comment
- Where is Rick coming from with that?

Ok, I'm with you now. "Devil Dog" is a nick name Marines use for each other. Akin to "gyrine", "jarhead", etc.

I forget that one its been almost thirties years since I served and we (Navy) generally called Marines Jarheads, but thanks for refreshing my memory on that. - Reply to this comment

- Where is a impartial response regarding Haliburton and Cheney?

- Well, about the only ones still supporting this war are the faith-based reality types. Both them and the Bush administration seem to believe that you can bend truth to fit your beliefs by sheer will.
While I admire their tenacity I loathe what their delusions are doing to the nation. - Reply to this comment
- How did Cerebus get in this converation? Devil Dog????

- -No victory is achievable heh? I'm sure the troops would love to hear you say this. No wonder you are a "former" marine.
You still don't have a problem spending money with In God We Trust printed on it either, do you?
What's your excuse....I know you've got one. Say how it wasn't added to money until later, say it's just a "slogan", or what not....
come on now, I'm waiting....
Posted by singinrick at 11:18 AM : Feb 23, 2007
I have no choice but to use currency with the slogan on it. It is the only legal tender available in this country. What do you expect me to do rick, print my own?
And in regards to no victory being achievale in this circumstance, that comes as as no surprise to our troops. I correspond via email with some in the theater and they see day after day, month after month, year after year, tour after tour pass with no gain. It is by no means a secret. - Reply to this comment

- right. in god we trust. joshua won in jericho with a trumpet. war being basically bigger boards with bigger nails, maybe all the soldiers in Baghdad should be issued 'Baghpipes'. It would be credit toward college and cover funeral expenses at the same time, if they get kilt.

- Gee radiob, maybe it's because no investigation is needed.

Why would you say that no investigation is needed. Did you not read the article? Who is devil dog? Are you trying to insult me? I have not defamed or insulted you. The article and many others like them conserning this are of relevance to the American people. The American people deserve answers on this and the no bid contract. It is our tax dollars that are funding the no bid contract. Where is your logic in stating that no investigation is needed. Be impartial to political ideology and examine the situation for what it is? - Reply to this comment
- Seems you have a problem with victory over them as well.
Posted by singinrick at 11:06 AM : Feb 23, 2007
I have no problem with vanquishing the insurgency from my own personal perspective.
But that does not override my understanding that a standing army will never quell religious hatred.
I would love to see a vicory so our troops could come home with glory. But the fact of the matter is that they are being asked to win a victory where no victory is achievable. - Reply to this comment
- Haliburton and Cheney actions have nothing do with God. No one can make those actions about God, to do so is a insult to God which anyone who has even casually study religion would know.

- Gee, tactics from a seargent. A LIB seargent no less. God bless the U.S. military and keep up the good work!

I don't know if this is offered tongue-in-cheek or not, but I will point out that in the Marine Corps at least, NCO's are trained in military strategy and tactics and are expected to be competent strategists/tacticians as they are the first level of command of a good number of men.
And they are expected to be able to effectively execute should they not have access to the higher elements of the command structure. - Reply to this comment
- So how about it Singinrick? Why not an investigation?
Posted by radiob at 11:04 AM : Feb 23, 2007
Allow me to try and predict the response, if you get one, radiob.
Rick will say that no investigation is required because Bush knows what's best for America as he is directed by God and God is infallible. - Reply to this comment
- Everyone should be able to unite on this if there interest is the interest of the US and not their own.
