- "but let's not forget the Al Queda has been working hard, from intercepted letters, to get the Sunnis and ****** to fight"
True. And if Iran is in the mix too, it becomes even more complex.
"The "capital" needs to be secured in order to create a "perception" that this young government is functioning and in control"
Normally, I would agree. But if you look in Afghanistan, the capital is fairly secure, but the government has little power outside the city limits. The towns are all run by warlords. So I don't know if securing Baghdad will settle down the country. It may since Iraq is a more modern country while Afghanistan is more rural and more tied to the "old ways". It's a different culture between the two countries, so who knows. - Reply to this comment
- Serial numbers on weapons? Hey that neo-con artist forgot to mention the "Made in Iran" labels on the weapons!
I don't see any references to the voice of Jesus in his head saying "It's the eye-Ranians" over and over either.

- Rafterman1 - good points.....but let's not forget the Al Queda has been working hard, from intercepted letters, to get the Sunnis and ****** to fight...... the ****** did hold off for along time but the bombing of one of the ****** mosques in Sammarra last February really set them off....... though it appears that most of the civil war is going on in Baghdad and the surrounding towns and villages.

Fair points. But I believe Iraq is in a civil war right now and I don't think the ones fighting are emboldened by our media or by political infighting. Its Sunnis vs Shiites and their blood feuds go way back - not to mention the beating the Sunnis put on the Shiites during the Sadaam years. Nothing good in Iraq is going to happen until those two slug it out and someone comes out on top. The problem is, it took a brutal dictator to keep them at peace. Will Iraqi democracy be enough to do it again? - Reply to this comment
- the usa will be in iraq and afghanistan and soon iran for a long long time...... there will be permanent usa bases there, just like s korea, japan and germany...... get used to it....

- Dear Rafterman1 , OK...... winning in Iraq will be difficult and here's my "suggestion(s)"
First the world needs to provide "vocal" support for this young democracy ......
We must get the Govenment and the security forces to the point where we can pull out and support from a distance.... like from aircraft carriers in the Gulf......
Once we can achieve this then provide "aid" both econmic and military so that the government can continue to strengthen and increase their capacity to defend themselves.......
NO LIKES THIS WAR! and no one wants to get out of Iraq MORE than our President........
I believe we are close .......we need to "try" because failure in Iraq will lead to consequences that we and the world can't afford.
We need to "demoralize" the enemy......but right now with the media coverage that we are seeing.....it ONLY emboldens the terrorists to push on....
fyi......... Iraq does have one the fastest growing economies in the world right now ... their GDP grew at 17% in 2005 and about 13% last year. - Reply to this comment

Serial numbers and markings on explosives used in Iraq provide "pretty good" evidence that Iranians are providing either weapons or technology for militants there, Defense Secretary Robert Gates asserted Friday.

Okay. I will start out by saying that what they found is most likely from Iran, but on the other hand, is "PRETTY GOOD" good enough to start a war with Iran??? The United States of America has already been lied into a war with Iraq, are we just suppose to accept this as fact?
Bush didn't order the build up of troops and an extra aircraft carrier into the Persian Gulf for nothing... - Reply to this comment

I won't be lectured by the likes of you on my patriotism. Iraq has made us more vulnerable to terrorism more than ever and if you would take a moment to put away the d1ck you've been swinging around to show how "tough" you are and take a moment and THINK about the strategic situation, you would be against Iraq too.
Oh, by the way, I had my a$$ in the sand in 90-91. My first vote ever was for Bush I. So f*ck off bigwhtpony. - Reply to this comment

- More like Kerry 0.3, Bush 0.5, Chaney 0. Kerry was there for 90 days...scored his 3 purple hearts (non of which required an medical attention) and then obsconded back to the US to betray his countryman - in true democrat fashion.
At least Bush was a fighter pilot in the national guard. Took some brains and guts. The jets he flew had a terrible reputation.

- That's true and I also heard the Iranians started World War I and world war II by convincing the Germans that they are Aryans just like the Iranians and that the Aryans are rightfully a global master race.
Hitler flew over to Tehran in 1936 for a brief visit with Reza Shah Pahlavi where he was brainwashed into attacking Poland.
The British then launched an invasion against Iran to stop this menace, forced Pahlavi to abdicate in favor of his son, and the rest is (neo-con artist) history! - Reply to this comment

Actually, I don't really like Kerry either. He's always smiling, like a used car salesman. But that still doesn't make his war record any less than what it is. - Reply to this comment

I know it's tough to see your righty politicians constantly f*ck up. Of course, their incompetence beats out dems by 20 to 1, so it only seems like the media is biased because there is just so more bad news to report when rebublicans are involved.
