Isreal's President now tells his generals "Stop the rehtoric,, Iran is no threat to Isreal"

Bush now says,,, "Continuing the way we are going is slow failure" more troops cannot be sustained.

If Iraq is the Center on "The War on Terror" -- What's that tell you about our "Decider" ??

Great, I come on this site to read opinions of others on the topic of troops in Iraq. Instead I have to listen to the ramblings of Father Flanaghan. Rick go join a religous chatline, you are nauseating.

Anytime SinginRick joins a discussion, the topic ALWAYS turns to religion. It doesn't matter what the subject is - it turns into "his faith", "his god", and "his religion".

I will have to agree with skyk! More people have been killed due to religious differences than for any other reason! I am not really certain why either. Why people get so warped out of shape over someone not believing as they do. But, it seems there is something about religion that brings out the worst in some people. They become bigoted and intolerant! Most of what is in the bible is supposition to begin with. All religions are based on suppositions! No one can prove or disprove it! The Christian has to go strickly by faith! That what they reading has any merit at all! I personally do not have that much faith in something that was invented by man for man!

Is America at War ??

NO !

America is at the Mall
America is watching "reality" TV
America is cashing in massive tax-cuts (if you are very wealthy of course)
America 99.8% is not sacrificing AT ALL, in the least.

The TROOPS are at WAR.
The TROOPS - our middleclass kids - are maimed nd dying for the wealthy NeoCom War Profiteers

That is why there is a "volunteer" Army
That is why tuition has skyrocketed and student loans have dried up.
That is why we bay a few BILLION in military recruitment costs.

It is easy to run an illegal, immoral, horrific WAR for power and profit, when you can isolate the real impact to 0.2% of the population

This escalation of Iraq combat has not been approved by Congress and the President does not have the right to escalate the war. It is time the Iraqi people took responsibility for their own country. The President%u2019s stated reasons for war with Iraq in the original mandate from congress does not apply and has been proven false on every point, at the cost of 3 American lives a day and two billion tax dollars a week. Congress must act to stop all funds for this war now and bring our troops home. November 7, 2006 was a mandate to stop the war in Iraq and the Culture of Corruption in Washington. What great things could American domestic programs do with two billion dollars a week we are spending in Iraq?

There is ONE FACT that NO ONE can deny. In the entire history of this nation and the world, when you look back at EVIL and the abuse of people by others, RELIGION is always involved. When the Indian's in this nation were being pushed off their land and killed as animals, Religious Leaders were the ONE's who told the public they were NOT civilized. When Blacks were being held as slaves and not allowed the most basic of human rights it was RELIGIOUS Leaders who told us they were NOT TRUE humans. When we were allowing Crazed Religious NUTS in the Klan and other groups to Lynch and Bomb in the South it was RELIGIOUS Leaders who were teaching our kids in School that "Equal but Different" was the Law of God. It's not just that way with this nation but all nation's and the world will NEVER be at peace until we all accept what Thomas Jefferson believed in with all he had. SEPERTATION of CHURCH and STATE is the ANSWER people... HERE and in the MIDDLE EAST.

Hey swingin rick, I used to be a bible thumper too... there's some great stuff in the bible, and I still think it's a great book... IF you know how to read it...

You see the bible is based upon astrology, astronomy, the zodiac, and ancient babylonian, sumerian, egyptian, and even greek mythology.

Did you know that when you say Amen after prayers you're actually referring to the Egyptian Sun God Amen Ra?

Did you know that Lucifer is the morning star that rises in the east? The eastern star? Who the bible refers to as "Son" Of the morning because when the bible says Son it's often implying the SUN...

Because the true SUN of god is the SUN that rises every morning and defeats lucifer the morning star as he tries to rise above the SUN of God.. Dec. 25th marks the day the sun starts its return towards the northern hemisphere after resting and rising for 3 days in the same place after Winter solstice, Dec. 25th was originally the Rebirth Of The SUN. Because the SUN is the true SUN of God... which is why our holiest day of the week of course is SUNday.

I hope this will help lead you to the true LIGHT OF GOD swingin rick... God Bless You...

you state:

You're only proving my point that you've placed
your faith in science, and not God. All you're doing is proving my point. You put your faith in science because some man called a scientist told you so, and I've placed my faith in God's word, the Bible, instead.

you say your faith is in God's word, the Bible
which was written by a human, like the scientist who as you point out - is human

now your point you made completely falls apart

Religion = A spirituality exploiting conformity system.

and the first true form of Hierarchy and corruption. Which made the masses live in poverty, while the religious leaders, built massive cathedrals, and lived like kings. Only because the masses where stupid enough, to blindly (that%u2019s faith) follow them.

what about the amount of death by religion, burning witches, crusades, wars-

maybe it's time we hung up these old useless beliefs

For the record, although the General is probably far more believable than Bush, I don't see the 'surge' troops coming home before 'Christmas' or even then. I can't help it, I'm a skeptic. Some of my 'skepticism' is based on facts learned during the past six years.

"...human beings have a need for both a rational, intellectual, and practical way of understanding and experiencing the world and for a holistic, artistic, and evaluative way of understanding and experiencing the world. The former is called logos; the latter is called mythos. Both have their legitimate place; both serve a necessary function; and both are essential aspects of the whole human being."

"...we get into serious trouble when we confuse them, or when we attempt to force the one to do the work of the other, or, worst of all, when we attempt to function as human beings in disregard of the function of either."

Karen Armstrong in "The Battle for God" A History of Fundamentalism. Ms Armstrong is a former Catholic nun and very knowlegible in the Jewish, Christian, and Islam religions. She also wrote "A History of God", a very interesting book even for this 'near' agnostic.

What we've seen in the past few pages of this comment board is a battle between a person who believes strictly in the 'mythos' and another person who believes strictly in the 'logos.'

"The Q'uran specifically teaches Muslims to wage war against Christians and Jews." Posted by singingrick.

This is a right-wing Christian myth. The Islam that Muhammed created embraced other religions. In true Islam, an 'infidel' is any person who doesn't believe in God. It's the Islamist fundamentalists who twisted and distorted it. Just as Christianity has been twisted and distorted by the many Christian sects that have formed in the nearly 2000 years since Christianity started.

How is it that Jews, Christians, and Muslems all worship the same God?

How is it that a Jew, worshipped by Christians, ends up as a prophet in the Islam religion?

Don't bother to tell me; I already know the answers to those questions.

"and for the record, there is proof of an intelligent being creating the universe"

And what proof would that be?

I know this is pointless to try and explain it, but I'll try anyways. Science is based on a set of repeatable laws (physics for example) that can be proven again and again in experiments. The Earth is 3,000,000,000 years old or whatever the number is because carbon decays at a specific rate that never changes and can be measured. Diabetics need insulin because experiments proved the compound exists and if you don't get it, you will die. Every time. These things are not "faith", they are facts that can be proven.

Now lets look at God. Sometimes he grants your prayers. Sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he wipes out entire towns with tsunamis. Sometimes he spares them. And the proof that God is doing this instead of just random events? Since you would have moe success predicting a dart board throw than God's will, the best you can say is you have faith. But to suggest science and religion are on a par when explaining the world around us is ridiculous. Faith in God is fine, but to have it to the point that your brains fall out is just plain sad.

singinrick,

Re: "You put your faith in science because some man called a scientist told you so"

I hate to say it, but you appear to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the field of science. Ideas that are "proven" scientifically are described and tested in meticulous detail, in such a way that anyone with the resources and the interest, can recreate these tests for themselves, and observe the exact same results , every time.

There is no reliance on taking anyone's word for anything, with respect to scientific principles. You can "prove"/"disprove" ideas and concepts for yourself, if you so desire.

Would your car or your lights function/exist without the existence of your God? Unknown. Unknowable.

What we do know, is that without science and mathematics, mankind could not achieve these technologies.

Faith-based analysis, on the other hand, relies only on imagination.

How about a compromise return to subject:
"If it's real, why is it sold on "faith", rather than "fact"? Think about it. " applies extremely well to Bush's military plans. While the whole world says he's wrong, he says he's right, and we're supposed to ignore facts, ignore generals, ignore muslims, ignore Iraqis, ignore our own common sense, and believe him.

Does Bush think he's God?
