Former Iraqi Dictator Hanged; U.S. Forces On High Alert For Surge In Violence
- Hermit22 I noticed the number of pages too.
Hanging tyrents seems to be very popular these days.
Frankly, I think most are surprised, I know I was. I figured after years of appeals, I would be in my crypt, while he would be still dodging the necktie party and Satan's homewarming welcome. - Reply to this comment
- Hey Satan, you have Hussein, Hitler, Stalin, mussolini, and all the rest, better save some "hot coals" for Fidel Castro, he won't be long.

- Hey you guys, there is 86 pages on this subject!
Is that some sort of record? If the hanging of Saddam got all these comments out of the woodwork, what ever is going on over in the old country? HAPPY NEW YEAR!

An old proverb or saying goes--- "The enemy of my enemys is my friend". Saddam was at war with Iran and so we supported him, I am sure you know that. Your trying to put a spin on that does not wash. He was fighting our battle, "at the time", with his young men, better his then ours, most will tell you. Iran/Syria is going to try and take over in Iraq as soon as we leave, so we are not leaving, in two years we will have permanent military bases all over the area. "Its the oil", we have it and we are not leaving it to Iran/Syria or anyone else.
By the way, why did we send another nuclear powerd battle group over to sit at Irans/Syrias doorstep? Our goverment is telling them "HANDS OFF IRAQ" and they better listen up. Again I repeat "it's the oil. - Reply to this comment
- Man, you people give the word 'hypocrisy' a whole new meaning. Have you forgotten the fact that your own government supported Saddam even while he was gassing his own people?
Saddam was a monster that the world's better off without, no doubt about it. But the US government is partly responsible for the crimes Saddam committed because at best it turned a blind eye to them and at worst actively supported him. Which one is worse? - Reply to this comment
- Well, Mr. President, you got what you wanted. He's dead. Thousands and thousands of people who deserved better had to die to get there, but he's dead. I hope it was worth it.

I totally agree with your point. There are a wide range of views expressed by bloggers on this site. I have found many posters highly intelligent, well informed and witty. On the whole, as long as blogs do not descend into mindless abuse and insults I respect all views and opinions.
However, it troubles me that the tactic used by those who support war in Iraq is, in many instances, to suggest that those who oppose the Iraq war are "liberals" or "unpatriotic." Is it liberal or unpatriotic to expect that your government should be honest and truthful? Is it liberal or unpatriotic to expect that your government provides clear evidence for waging war before sending young men & women to their deaths?
Is it liberal or unpatriotic to raise doubts and concerns in situations where your government's pronouncements are clearly at odds with the facts?
Those who seek to stifle legitimate enquiry and questioning forget that we live in a democracy not a totaltarian dictatorship. They should also bare in mind that the disservice to the nation is not by those who are courageous enough to speak the truth, but rather those who (despite all the evidence), choose not to do so.
I have posted on this site many times and for the record I will say it again. I have nothing against GWB, in fact I support some of his domestic programme. However, on the issue of Iraq this President has been grossly inept, deceptive and incompetent. - Reply to this comment
- newster1 this is right of the subject of Saddam but as you raised it ....you say many things about what is wrong in the bible, you say, being that hares do not chew their cud, you are right and wrong,,,
In modern English, animals that %u2018chew the cud%u2019 are called ruminants. They hardly chew their food when first eaten, but swallow it into a special stomach where the food is partially digested. Then it is regurgitated, chewed again, and swallowed into a different stomach. Animals which do this include cows, sheep and goats, and they all have four stomachs. Coneys and rabbits are not ruminants in this modern sense.
However, the Hebrew phrase for %u2018chew the cud%u2019 simply means %u2018raising up what has been swallowed%u2019. Coneys and rabbits go through such similar motions to ruminants that Linnaeus. Also, rabbits and hares practise refection, which is essentially the same principle as rumination, and does indeed %u2018raise up what has been swallowed%u2019. The food goes right through the rabbit and is passed out as a special type of dropping. These are re-eaten, and can now nourish the rabbit as they have already been partly digested.
As in many other things that are forbidden, and science is now finding out why, I would say that this one is because the hare re-eats its own droppings which must be full of hmmm.. and no the hares have paws not hoves... - Reply to this comment

- But I also would have to say that the way so many people chat here I wonder if they talk like this with their wives/husbands when having an argument, and if they do it is no wonder that the divorce rate is so high.. I find it so sad that the opinions of many people on here are belittled... we all have different ideas and I personally love reading them and have learnt a lot from what people say, but I cant indulge in conversation which are darned right small and nasty. everyone thinks that what they feel is important and we must give that person the respect that they deserve and maybe just maybe we can learn to discuss intelligently, there are many people on here who are obviously intellegent, it shows in what they write so perhaps we can learn from them, and each other..

YOU ARE RIGHT ON WITH REGARD TO ITALY AND ROMANIA AND THE TYRANTS THEY EXECUTED..........IT WAS A BLESSING FOR BOTH COUNTRIES, ALTHOUGH BARBARIC. BUT HUMANS ALL HAVE A SINISTER BARBARIC ELEMENT IN THEIR SOULS. - Reply to this comment
- mcdazz, I know what I said about handing Saddam over to the families of the people he killed is not a Christian way of thinking, that is why I made that silly remark.... I know it is wrong but I won't try to hide behind a barrage of religious jargon either, nor will I pretend to be all righteous... As I said, the talk of many religious people on here would even turn Christians off, we have no right to push our views on people who at this stage are happy the way they are and dont want to know, they think they are right and we know we are, eheheh and only death will show who is right, I am just glad that when I die that it won't matter if I am wrong ...it sickens me to see some of the religious idiotic things written here,, and even Jesus talked about the religious and pious people. He talked about the people who stood on a corner praying out loud and long so as others would see how wonderfully spiritual they were trying to make themselves out to be, and didnt Jesus call them whited Sepulchres ... no that was the ones in the synagogues wasnt it, oh well the pretenders are all the same, mcdazz, I am only interested in genuine people.

- I did notice where Sir Lies Alot was quick to add that this would not end the violence in Iraq. Well Duh? I just hope the little creep a few and I do mean a few, still call a President can now be happy and he'll bring our kids home. This low life, Saddam, should have been tried by the World Court and in that manner the Extremist in the Middle East couldn't have made it look like We killed him. That's very important when it comes to convincing young Arabs not to strap on explosives and blow our kids up. The Problem with that was simple. The Embarrassment and the calls for the trials of Cheney and Rumsfeld, who Armed Saddam, would have been so loud no one could have ignored it. People who live in Glass Houses should NOT throw stones folks.

- UNHAPPY IN AMERICA? Then PLEASE go to Iran or another country. You are free to leave. The key word is "free". Take a look any ANY footage of Iran ... do you see homes like the ones here in America and in such numbers? Look at their teeth - no dental plans, medical plans, vision plans, no quality care for the indigent people. Teenagers don't buy cars, no IPODs, - and check this out ... only 5% of the people in Iran own a computer! Get grateful for what your looking at and typing on. Don't want it? Leave. I mean REALLY?! America benefits not from people who don't want to be here. Unhappy with the way things are going? Then VOTE.

The rationale for the war in Iraq aside, if there is one person who "deserves" to be executed for what he has done, that person is Saddam Hussein. I for one support the death penalty and for once I think if anything the US government have not meddled in this affair. Indeed if the Iraq's had their way there would have been no trial for Saddam of any description. At least there was some degree of "process" and I think that owes much to the positive influence of the
the US administration.
However, it is somewhat convenient that with the death of Saddam there is no opportunity for him to shed light on his "friendship" with the US government. How enlightenining (to say nothing of embarassing) that would have been. - Reply to this comment
- Little can be added on most of these blogs that contribute more than what each of you here have so eloquently spoken. Remember it is imperative that you convert your knowledge into action by contacting the local news paper%u2019s Letter to the Editor and your Senator and Representative with your views. Your passion must be converted into actions.

- The gruesome execution and public hanging of the dead bodies of Mussolini and his mistress by Italian patriots was the best thing that could have happened for Italy at that time.
Likewise the swift fate dealt out to Ceausescu in Romania.
Both Italy and Romania made great strides after those cathartic events. - Reply to this comment
- Its hard for a man against execution to justify that position when a man like Sadam Husein is convicted of such terrible crimes. Furthermore, this event may help Iraq move on and may help sheites to let go of the need for vengenge and murder as a response to what has happened in the past. Emotions are stronger than rationality in human beings and we must pray thay that now Iraqies will be able to move on to a greater future for all the people of Iraq.
