So, since you can't seem to enjoy your life or your art without a dash of profanity or degradation... the rest of the world has to suffer?

"So let's get away from what children should or shouldn't be watching and address the issue of the offense language all by itself."

Madam, your family (and, based on your username, your children specifically) were at the heart of your initial statements. Certainly, you may have been personally offended, but what you're advocating is censoring a work of art.

If you don't like a particular work, might I suggest that you avoid it in future instead of imposing your particular morals on the rest of us.

If you are offended , that is your right.
But I think we stil have something called free speech in the US ( wasnt banned by the Patriot Act)so unless its hate speech inciting hate crimes( like that Tim Hardaway ), you have the right to be offended and the rest of us get the right to enjoy a great actress

Actually, her song had nothing to do with "news." That language certainly wouldn't be allowed on our local news station. As a matter of the fact, the president of our local station issued me a personal apology.

And whether my chldren were sitting there or not, it offended ME. So let's get away from what children should or shouldn't be watching and address the issue of the offense language all by itself.

I realize that I may not like the news, but I believe that I should be able to watch it without being INSULTED by the language used in a song. If I wanted to hear that type of language, I'd get my news from Howard Stern.

"You have no clue what you're talking about. If they were watching Saturday Night Live you'd have a point, but they were watching a MORNING PROGRAM that aired ten minutes before cartoons came on!!"

Yes, the *news*.

"My family didn't witness ANY of the other things you mentioned."

And yet, they were all part of the same program - if I may reiterate, the *news*.

I can understand that you'd be upset at the perception that we're criticizing you specifically as a parent. I wasn't - it's a matter of parents in general making decisions about what and how much television their children watch. Anyone whose kids watched Ms. Ebersole's performance let their child watch a news program that covered war, death and crime (whether you saw it or not). One historically correct word choice, in the context of a critically lauded Broadway show, should be the least of anyone's worries about program content. If you don't like it, don't let your children watch the news.

So, because we dare to mention that we were offended by the profane language on this program, you think we need to improve our parenting skills? My family didn't witness ANY of the other things you mentioned. We turned the program on just before Christine started singing.

Also, whether she was "acting" or not is a moot point. The words that came out of her mouth were still offensive.

And again, I must ask, why can't you simply let us state our opinion? Why the need to criticize us personally?

Why were so many children watching an entertainment NEWS program on a Saturday morning? What happened to cartoons? And what about the stories of the war, Anna Nicole's addiction issues, and a fire that killed six children which also aired on the program? How do you explain those to your little "innocent" ones? It is laughable to me that the use of that phrase is so appalling but not the war, drug addiction, and the senseless death of children in a fire. Those are examples of "teachable moments", just like Ebersole's use of "god ***." Maybe it was a good time for you to act like a parent and engage your child in a dialogue about what matters to you AND what is happening in the world around them.

The performance she gives is a beautiful, nuanced portrayal of a troubled woman. The use of "******" is purely for artistic reasons here. She hardly talks this way in real life-it is ACTING. It was part of the script, and the original source for the show, the documentary. Kids see a lot worse on TV and hear it in music.

If it weren't for all the suffering and oppression christians themselves cause, I might actually feel bad and care what they think.
