- "The difference here is that you're criticizing me for MY opinion."
Where's the difference? You don't think that my direct quoting of FCC statements is pertinent to you complaining to them, nor are you willing to explain why you find the term objectionable when it's not about damning God, but about those who are damned by God.
"Why can't you simply accept that I found the language objectionable and have been offended?"
It's not as simple as that, because by definition, I cannot see the word as objectionable. Semantically, it's tantamount to having plagues of locusts or a flood unleashed on you - nothing more. - Reply to this comment
- IWM73 - So that's the only line in my comment that you're willing to address? The difference here is that you're criticizing me for MY opinion.
It's interesting that you're requesting I offer you validation that I found the profanity objectionalbe. I'll answer your question, once you've answered mine, which I've already asked here a few times. Why can't you simply accept that I found the language objectionable and have been offended?
Yes, I made my comment in a public forum, but I made my comment to CBS, not TO YOU or ABOUT YOU. So why do you find it necessary to try to rip me apart for feeling the way I do? - Reply to this comment
- "We have the RIGHT to VOICE our opinion."
As do we, using language of our choice. Incidentally, can you address my question as to why it's offensive to refer to something as having been damned by God? - Reply to this comment
- Wow, this appearance sure sparked a debate! And one that went way beyond the actual appearance. Right now there are 9 pages of comments...when almost every other Second Cup Cafe perfomance generated maybe 1 comment. Debate aside, the performance was amazing. Brava, Christine! Brave, Grey Gardens! Thanks, CBS!

Re-read my comments and tell me where I suggested that you had to feel the same way I do. You can call me narrow minded all you want. It doesn't hurt my feelings or change my mind. I'm proud to take a stand for what I believe and would never let anyone's belittling comments change my mind.
It still amazes me that because I DARED to state that I'm offended, I'm being called a closed minded, narrow minded person with dangerous ideas.
IWM73 - I can tell that you certainly enjoy using that word. Is it simply to annoy those of us who were offended? I don't care what the FCC considers offensive. I still have the right to write and tell them if offended ME.
I think the problem on this board is there are some people who refuse to accept that we have the right to be offended and leave it at that. They want to debate and berate us over our feelings and call us narrow minded because we don't see things their way. It's a common intimidation tactic.... ridiculing people for their beliefs to try to make them feel ashamed of what they believe or feel so that they'll cower in a corner and be afraid to speak up the next time.
We have the RIGHT to be OFFENDED. We have the RIGHT to VOICE our opinion. - Reply to this comment
- You have the right to your taste- it wasnt offensive to me. " Around the World " is a beautiful, touching song and if you cant see that, your loss. But dont put your opinion out there like its truth-thats called fanaticism

- I do not think the song was inappropriate ~ especially for a Saturday morning. It was offensive. I will switch back to the Today show for my family's Saturday morning viewing.

- Mom6boy- it's closed minded attitudes like yours that we need freedom of speech laws to defend us against If Grey Gardens is not your cup of tea, fine, but other people's artistic opinions are their right too- to call people who have a different taste than yours " beyond ridiculous " just shows a very narrow mind. If you dont like something, fine, but dont tell me I have to feel the same way.

- The FCC information was provided in response to those who wrote that they wanted to file complaints, momx6boys, to point out that one can complain about the use of "*******" all they want, but the FCC won't make a move.
In fact, what is so objectionable about referring to something as "damned by God" in the first place? - Reply to this comment
- Pharmboi, I think you have a point, but this is one of those words, that for some people, just cuts to the heart and offends. Just like the N word.
