Thousands of teachers did not create the common core. The common core was created by David Coleman and Jason Zimba and the standards grew out of the American Diploma Project by Achieve - all common core standards point to the end results in ADP standards. And these are not "state" standards no matter what anyone says. They are the same set of standards used in all states - therefore they are national standards - and adopting common standards was part of the requirement in order to receive Race to the Top funding. These standards will not raise our test scores or raise up our society - they will create common children and they will create a society that cannot problem solve. In addition, the K-3 standards are developmentally inappropriate. The scripted curriculum which is accompanying these standards is mind numbing - don't believe the bs about schools getting to adopt these standards and "localize" them. Too much profit to be made when one dismantles a country's public school system and destroys the teaching profession. These standards will be followed by more tests...and more profit for the corporations. Parents should revolt against these standards - they've never been field tested and all of America's children will now be guinea pigs in an experiment which will fail. This isn't about the children - this is about the money. Follow the money. www.unitedoptout.com, www.pegwithpen.com - Peggy Robertson

Biggest Lie: The Common Core State Standards were NOT created with the input of Governors and THOUSANDS of teachers. They were created by an elite group of non-academics using a "business model". The standards are lengthy, cumbersome, and most importantly - developmentally INAPPROPRIATE!
Do some research - check out the hand David Coleman (hmmm, wonder what connection he has to PEARSON and all the TESTS??) had in creating these standards.
It's much like NBC hosting an "Education Nation" where there are NO CLASSROOM TEACHERS on the panel!

Well you guys flunk math. The example you showed
was

a+(b+c) = (a+)+c which is (a) wrong and (b) doesn't
make sense.

It _should_ be

a+(b+c) = (a+b)+c

P.S. I really cannot believe that kindergarteners are going
to understand abstract math concepts. Grouping by parentheses??
Symbols meaning numbers?? Give me a break.
