Cable is expensive enough as it is... especially when there's no real a la carte plan... but if customers could choose which stations they wanted, as opposed to the big "tier" plans, the cable company would lose money... can't have that, and it's clear they don't want to have individual plans as a gesture of pro-customer good will... too much work for them to create and work deprives them of profit as well...
And we're "customers". Not "consumers". Big contextual difference between those two words...
