Hi, thank you CBS for taking the time to look at our communities. With tears in my eyes and a heavy heart, I hope for the best, these who were interviewed are inspiring. I would guess there are many levels of complexity to homeless, homeless in a vehicle, homeless in vacant buildings, many types I would rather not hear, but I assume that is what's wrong, we are not listening to the magnitude we should. I can't stop thinking of money that was gathered for political purposes, and the hate ads toward our leadership is squandered while people need leadership. I in now way blame any political figure for the homelessness, I also don't praise their efforts in helping the american homelessness issue. Want my vote? Help our people. Stop spending on ads, help our people. Instead of a recording studio ad, help our people, the walls have ears and people will see who should be leaders and those who should not be. Thank you CBS, your a credit to news.

No one has told me yet if that law was ever changed. The one we went to congress to talk to. Basically if you live in a hotel and an agency pays for it then you are homeless but if you pay for it then you are not homeless. This was stopping thousands of families from housing assistance and trapping them into the high cost of hotels. I'll tell ya, it is a hard situation to get out of.

When there is a feeding and the agency knows that I am there, people eat better. I'm treated different when I am a homeless kid. But when I am Arielle Metzger, agencies seem scared or put off. like I'm a threat or something. I just can't put my finger on it. Am I intimidating?

Hey this is Arielle. I had been mentioning to some agencies and art stores about homeless kids decorating cloths to help raise money for agencies. And with art studios, maybe some kids could sell their art. Who knows, it could take off in the art world. This was just one idea that I thought about. Community involvement stuff. Any other positive ideas that might be new that the community can do? I noticed caseworkers don't seem to be very familiar with Pel Grants. At least how to fill them out. Police should carry more resource guides. And for crying out loud, the next police station I ask to help me learn how to do background checks myself or help hook up my security camera, needs to help a kid who is asking. Especially one like me, who has been seen by millions. I have been turned away with excuses by every police station I ask. Except Sanford. They have known me a couple of years now. Shame on all you police across the country, I asked for help. Tomorrow, I'm going to the Beverly Hills station. If I'm brave enough.

Yes, police should help kids who ask. But, you're not the person who should be asking for help, or the person who needs to be brave. Where is your dad? He needs to step up. From the looks of your website and from some of your posts, it seems you are taking on too much responsibility for a 15 year old girl. I think it's great that you are mature, but there is something wrong with this picture.

Not really, I just turned 16. I'm old enough to work. I was offered a paid internship at a couple of different law offices. Dad has made sure that every opportunity for my education has been fulfilled. I could have Choate Rosemary Academy. There are actually 3 collages who offered education. That is potentially 12 years free if I absolutely had to. What's wrong with this picture is that I seem to be the only one who can take this opportunity and keep it current. Maybe focus on some solutions to the problems. Real ideas to help. My dad has totally got my back. Think about this, if you were a 15 year old kid on 60 minutes and it is now almost a year later and you are 16, everywhere you go you are known as the homeless family that stayed together and believes in education. The girl who inspired so many with the message of the american dream. You would grow up faster than that 15 year old girl who lived in a truck. I have been in the news every month since the show in November 2011. I have worked with news reporters, magazines, newspapers, radios, there are even those documenting our homeless story in FL and in CA. What's wrong with this picture? There is a 16 old girl who is not waiting for a thousand comments of people to get behind me, everybody's doing that. I'm standing in front because I can do more than most adults when I have confidence and good ideas. Didn't I represent to congress at age 15? As far as my dad looking out for me, he is with me every step of the way, to learn and grow and always he stresses wisdom. He says listening is the first step. The first time the show was on, 15 million families and people saw me. My dad went straight into the police department in Sanford and made sure they knew everything about us and our safety concerns. All the city officials and fire department look out for me because of my dad. In Sanford I couldn't even walk to school because the boys were so mean, trowing stuff and chasing me. Thank you ice-cream man for distracting them that day. Every city we go to, we meet the police, ambulance and fire department first. I hope some of this helps.

I do like your art sales idea. I hope you keep thinking about it. Maybe art stores, or maybe a large chain store like Staples which are all over the country and sell art supplies. They could set up a corner in the store to sell art work from homeless kids and give the profits to a homeless-help agency. I don't know about giving the profits directly to each artist, that might get too complicated for the stores. But it would definitely put a spotlight on kids who are trying to help their own situations get better. Something to think more about. I do like your website with all the assistance organizations, thank you for your hard work.

Hi, I am from Australia and I am feeling pretty bad watching this documentary. I can't understand how your government don't do nothing about this and other issues in your country. I believe that it is about time you USA citizens wake up and ACT!
In my country there is homelessness "by choice" not by force. Children are NEVER left to live under these conditions in Down Under and believe me, we'll start a revolution the day any federal or state government do something like this.
SHAME in your government, SHAME in your politicians but also SHAME ON YOU people of the USA for not doing anything about it! I am sorry, but it is the truth.

The government doesn't do anything because of people like Romney. They want all the money for themselves. They call helping people give aways or entitlements. Right now they're fighting to keep the tax cuts for the rich in place. Poor people think that if the rich have to pay higher taxes they won't have the money to create new jobs. Well where are the jobs now? They're not paying high taxes and there's no jobs! They're keeping the money for themselves. Romney's hiding millions in other countries and he wants to be president. The greed over here is unbelievable!

Greetings from the UK. Watching this video, I have to ask you, what on earth is going on with you USA? You let children sleep in the streets? I can tell you that in the UK you won't find a single child being allowd to sleep in the streets with no home (and no adults either, unless they chose to, and even then social workers will make sure to take them out of the streets. Every single one of them). This is why we have social services who provide council housing, financial support and free healthcare for everyone who can't support himself (let alone children).
The big question is, WHY DO YOU KEEP GIVING TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO SO MANY FOREIGN COUNTRIES EVERY YEAR IN AID AND JUST FOR NO REASON AT ALL, INSTEAD OF GIVING THIS MONEY FIRST TO YOUR OWN PEOPLE WHO NEED IT?
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?
I don't know and can't understand you really.

I ask this question daily, as to why the US government keeps sending money to other countries instead of taking care of our own people. I realize there is a need in other parts of the world, but for heaven's sake, take care of our people first.

Hey this is Arielle Metzger. One thing the adults are missing, to me it seems, 16 million families times 2.5 kids = 44 million kids in poverty and thats not counting runaways. I don't know about much of the other stuff being discussed. I do know that when I spoke to congress, I spoke for over 44 million kids. And I will continue to do so.

After seeing this segment in November, my husband and I decided to let a homeless family live in our condo in Southern Florida. We were using it for long weekends and vacations, and felt that it would serve a much greater purpose by having a family live there. We found a single mom with a teen daughter through our church and they moved in, and have even been able to send some money to offset some or our costs. I mention this because there are lots of people who have second homes in florida that are not being used, and perhaps you too can help.

God bless you!I tried to bring up the idea of people helping out those in need by offering vacation homes and such people who are without and I ended up with an earful about how it isn't their problem or responsibility. You are amazing people! Thank you for adding to the hope of America.

I try to follow the teachings of Jesus and have taken in a couple of homeless teens. But I do not know if I could be as generous as you and your husband. To paraphrase Jesus, If a man has two coats, he should give up one to somebody who has none. God bless you. Someday, that mother and/or her daughter will surely turn around and spread the love you have given. And if you are not Christian, please do not be offended by this post. I also try and follow the teachings of Gandhi and his words -- again paraphrased -- We must be the change we want.
