RatPackSixGun says:
The guy was in the AIR FORCE. And he's flapping his jaw about his knees as if he was out humping with the Army infantry 20 miles a day?

Just another narcissistic coward here. Why this human d*ldo gets face time when there are legions of honorably discharged actual combat vets living under bridges is tragically puzzling.

ugacrew says:
"Dishonorable Discharge?" How can he be "discharged" when he never served in the first place.

Do not "dishonor" those who attempted to serve and served poorly, or ran amuck of the law.

He falls into an entirely different category. Brand him as a bonafide "Yellow-Belly."

Hey Mister,

Tell that to the young wife and children of the soldier who might have been able to not be deployed that extra time had you been there to take a turn.

Further,

What is he trying to do, send a message to all future soldiers that it is ok to run and hide, as long as you stay gone long enough?

"He has suffered enough??"...he says?

Tell that to the dead soldier whose life he could have saved had he been fighting beside him.

Well, depending on where you serve and your job, the Air Force isn't necessarily a picnic. It isn't the Marine Corps either. This guy will, no doubt, get a Dishonorable Discharge that will be, for all purposes, the same as a felony conviction. He will not get veterans benefits of any kind whatsoever. Serious prison time probably serves no useful purpose for him, the military or his family. The Dishonorable Discharge will cause more damage to him than any imprisonment ever could. At least some incarceration is warranted for the desertion, but something like 30-90 days. There is an investigated security issue that needs resolution. If he is guilty of deliberately revealing classified material, the military should prosecute him to the fullest extent possible.

OwlCreekObserver says:
It didn't bother him to have his parents and the rest of his family wondering whether he was alive or dead for 28 years. It didn't bother him to violate the oath he took to support and defend his country. It didn't bother him to violate the contract he entered into with the Air Force. It didn't bother him to dump his workload on his fellow airmen who had to take up the slack after he disappeared.

He clearly hasn't suffered at all. He lived a good life, got married, had kids and got a cushy government job in Sweden. If he cannot be extradited to face the consequences of his choices, then he should be stripped of his citizenship and denied entry into the United States. He is without honor.

And, by the way, the Air Force has clearly defined conditions for approval of conscientious objector status. Such discharges are usually classified as either Honorable or General, unless the individual's duty performance clearly demands otherwise, and they are routinely approved. His statement that he feared receiving a Dishonorable Discharge is just one more lie of many.

I am a Swedish native who serves in the Swedish Air Force and all I can say is that this guy is such a looser. He has betrayed his own country and therefore he is not welcome in my country. I hope you guys come and drag him off to prison.

No draft in play here. No coercion. Boils down to first you joined, then you wimped, then you skipped. What a loser..... Bet you weren't thinking about your parents when you burdened them with a deserter for a son.

So come back and take punishment like a man, the same way you should have taken your hitch in the first place.
