Phil Hoffman's acting always emanates, to me, a quality of endless curiosity. He seems to approach his work in a way that lets him pick up the slightest piece of information and inflect it—to make something out of nothing. Willy Loman is not a 'nothing' part, of course. But still in Mike Nichols's "Death of a Salesman" Hoffman has uncovered and divined—from all the hidden corners no one ever looked in—the essence of this monolithic role.

The greatest role Mr. Hoffman played was in the movie " Flawless " with Robert Deniro. I had never heard of it until one day when I came across it in a charming book store near Dallas. It was as if I was watching a great painting in movement. What a thrill see Mr. Hoffman show us who we are. I am in awe!! Connie Loftus
