Disasters have the potential to cause emotional distress- like overwhelming feelings of anxiety, problems sleeping, or depression -in those that experience them. Survivors living and working in impacted areas (including children & teens), loved ones of victims, and first responders are all at risk. The Disaster Distress Helpline is a service from SAMHSA that offers 24/7, year-round crisis counseling related to any natural or man-made disaster. Those needing support can call toll-free 1-800-985-5990 or text 'TalkWithUs' to 66746. Calls and texts are answered by trained, caring counselors from call centers located throughout the U.S.

Don't give up, Ruben. I hope you are getting counseling for your post-traumatic stress disorder so that you can overcome it and pursue your rightful career in mental health. You were born to help others, and as you know, in order to do that well, you need to take care of yourself first. Best wishes from Canada!

This guy should have received some form of award or formal recognition from the president for being a hero because he saved so many lives. It's a shame that his new job doing what he loved and obtained a degree in didn't work out. Hope some organization sees the story and offers him a job as a psychological counselor or mentor/advocate.
