We get plenty of activity flying over the WV mountains originating from Langley in Virginia. Please keep the altitude high enough where you can crash in Kentucky or Ohio.

Apart from helium and probably neon, all gases that can be breathed have a narcotic effect.

These are UNIQUE pilots, flying a UNIQUE machine, made of UNIQUE materials, through a UNIQUE operational envelope. Converting to LOX would considerably narrow down a UNIQUE problem that is resulting in UNIQUE risk factors.

It could be that pilots are not getting enough oxygen. OK, I'll buy into 3% of that possibility. This is because monitoring oxygen levels does not even qualify as a half donkey approach to finding a root cause. The other 79% of what the pilots are breathing is being ignored.

The air we breath is about 21% oxygen
Our lungs absorb about 3% oxygen
Our exhaled breath is about 18% oxygen

I have listened to and respect these F-22 pilots.
But shame on the 1 General that would rather waste pilots, airplanes, and innocent lives than lead, follow, or get out of the way.

There is a very simple solution to this problem. Have the Generals that want to "force" our trained pilots to fly, to fly the F-22 themselves and you will see shortly, the problem addressed at once.
The same goes for the politicians that engage us in these foreign wars or conflicts have them to serve, or their family members, be the first troops on the ground, and we will have very few wars with the U.S. taking over and trying to install our way of life on these foreign countries . They have been fighting within for centuries and we try to make them live the way we live and govern our people ?? We should take care of our problems first!!

I hope Lockheed Martin would make a little less profit on F-22 and get this serious problem fixed before some of our best pilots get killed. Grounding the F-22 is not an embarrassment to me because something worse might happen if not.

On July 14, 1980 my brother "Sam" Taylor and his WSO Paul Yeager were killed after ejecting from their F-111D, 12 flight hours after major overhaul & modification by the a/c manufacture-General Dynamics. The major maintenance "mistakes" which caused this fatal a/c accident would have resulted in prison time for the "AFLC technicians", if they had committed the same quality of work on a civilian aircraft. To begin with, the capsule's kick motor propellant grain was fractured, should have been x-rayed while at AFLC prior to return to service and failed to function properly (fuel chunked) during the ejection sequence. Thirty six (36) bolts were missing from their starboard engine inlet duct, the resulting engine inlet air within the airframe causing such severe buffeting to the capsule's main parachute that it friction galled to itself and its container. There was over 2 pounds of metallic grit from improperly manufactured & cleaned tubing found in the a/c hydraulic system, corroded canon plug pins on the afterburner fuel control valve caused their remaining engine to fail to provide sufficient thrust when called upon to maintain altitude on that hot dry New Mexico day. But the most callous words that I have ever heard uttered were by the General Dynamics attorneys, "It's cheaper to pay off the families than it is to fix the airplanes." Perhaps this is Lockheed Martin's rational regarding these F-22 pilot deaths?

32 years ago and still bitter as ever? Sorry for your loss, but move on. Your brother would not have wanted you to give yourself heart attacks and strokes over his death - rather he would have wanted you to get over it and have a good life.

The oxygen generators could be producing ozone, which is difficult to detect (there is likely no attempt to detect ozone in the F22 on-board system), and decomposes quickly, but not so quick that it doesn't have time to cause respiratory inflammation and displaces available O2 to the point of danger for pilots.

Is this a joke? After investigating the crash, the Air Force, claims "Haney was to blame for the crash because he was...WAIT FOR IT..."too distracted by his inability to breathe...WHAT? ....to fly the plane properly." The Air Force blames the pilot...because he could "NOT BREATH???..EXCUSE ME"....How about the faulty oxygen system?

I have two parts to my comments and I'll try to keep them short. Please feel free to correct me if my information is in error~

1. The F-22 is a show horse that we are wasting $100s of BILLIONS of $$$ on! Its concept started in the 80s... we bought it in the 90s... it IOC'd in 05 and became Combat Ready shortly there after. It has ZERO (!!!) yes... zero sorties in actual combat! In the late 90's the House considered cutting it (and our losses) and they, IMO damn sure should have!!! And the OBOGS... antiquated junk... I dont get it either!

2. I think CBS should consider outsourcing for its investigative reporting! You've said nothing about the fatalities in F-22s... yes... there's a few of them! You've said nothing about Lockheed Martin-Boeing/Pratt Whitney and I'm sure your viewers are interested in their comments(excuses).

I would tell these two fly boys (and any others waiting in the wings) simply this... request transfer to a REAL conbat squadron or resign your commission... you discredit yourselves and our Armed Forces by whinning as you are.
