What a disgraceful and biased report. Bob, ask your colleague Lara Logan what she feels about Muslim terrorist intimidation factors. Israel needs to defend herself from the terrorists that want to see it destroyed. Christians, like many other people, must contend with the unfortunate circumstances of a country at war with an entity that refuses to acknowledge the right for Israel to exist. The reason why this report was asked to be withdrawn was because it was an outrageous, one-sided attempt to alienate Christians and Jews. I hope this backfires and the world begins to see the insanity behind the argument claiming moral equivalence between radical Muslim Palestinians and Israelis. Try visiting, let alone filming, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher under radical Muslim rule. Good luck.
Let's try to get this straight, once and for all. What self-respecting Arabs and Muslims oppose is a Jewish State that consigns their own people to second, and third, class status. Would you recognize a Christian state, i.e. one that privileges Christians to the detriment of Jews and other non-Christian citizens? I thought not. Thank you Bob Simon for reporting this story. I was in Bethlehem in 2001 and 2004. It was an open- air prison then, even before the Wall. I know a Christian family that has left the city in the last decade, and it wasn't because of friction from Muslims...it was the occupation. It was the constant fear, the constantly shrinking economic opportunities (as tourism shrunk so markedly in the city during the Sharon years and forward), the difficulty for children to be educated (with frequent closures, etc.), and the problems getting past checkpoints to get specialty health care.

Bob Simon's report about Christians in the Holy Land on 60 minutes last night was a highly offensive and inaccurate "bashingfest" of Israel. The only truthful part of the entire segment came from the words of Ambassador Oren. First of all, Israel is the only democracy in the Mid-East and allows all religious groups including Christians to freely practice their religion. Additionally, it protects all holy places icluding churches of Christians as well as mosques of Moslems. Last year my family visited Israel and we met a Christian Arab man and his daughter who is an accountant. She told us that the Moslem Arabs not the Jews tried to keep Christians Arabs from practicing their religion. She lived in the US for several years but returned to Israel to give birth to her child because as a full citizen of Israel she was entitled to full health care coverage which she couldn't afford in the US....

Besides, the mere fact that Israel identity cards, which Palestinians carry, show the religion of the person is used to discriminate against them. Where else does an ID showe a person's religion? Thank you for this story. Although certain important facts about the Israeli occupation were glossed over--for example, the Israeli government has built much of the Separation Wall on Palestinian land that it has seized--generally Mr. Simon gave a clear and evenhanded account. More importantly, he allowed Palestinian Christians to speak for themselves, which they did eloquently. One of the more interesting facets of the story was Mr. Simon's exposure of the Israeli government's attempt, through Mr. Oren, to censor the story before it appeared. You are to be commended for standing up to this pressure tactic and airing the story.

Even those in the US who couldn't care less about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict should care a lot about the chilling effect the Israel lobby - a foreign lobby - has created by practically owning our own Congress, and most of the mainstream media, on this subject. It's been a long time coming, but 60 Minutes represents a significant break in the dam, i.e. the lobby's successful censorship of this issue in the American press.
I agree with you 100%. It is very interesting how the Media always makes Israel out to be the bad guy. I have never heard the mention that Arabs in Israel have full rights and many are members of the Knesset. You don't hear the story that: when Israel blankets an area with fliers telling everyone to leave the area as it will be bombed; Hamas ushers in women and children to be martyred, and they go willingly as that is the only way heaven is guaranteed. Now Hamas can make the story about "bad" Israel killing women and children and neglect to tell the world that over 12,000 rockets have been fired at/into Israel.
