There's something wrong (and revealing...) about having to shell out more than a billion dollars to be elected leader of a nation that bills itself as the "land of the free..."
ironpony33: "Professional politicians is all the American citizen/tax payer is going to get....They are elected into the "monarchy" rather than being born there."
Exactly my point as well....there is no difference now between our oligarchic plutocracy and any of the monarchies around the world, and "Citizens United' has only made it much, much worse for WE THE PEOPLE!
We must petition our dysfunctional congresscritters to draft legislation that severely limits campaign financing and length of these ugly campaigns -- making negative partisan attacks illegal, and only allowing candidates to run on their own qualifications, past accomplishments and vision for the future!
Mortar1SG: "People can do what they want with their money."
While that is basically true, it's totally immoral for a few of the wealthiest Americans (or foreigners for that matter) to be allowed by the 'Citizens United' SCOTUS decision, to buy their 'brand' of politicians that WE THE PEOPLE have not endorsed.
How is our oligarchic plutocracy any different from the monarchies around the world?
Our Founding Fathers are surely rolling over in their graves!
Along with everyone else, I think this amount of spending on propaganda is asinine. The Oligarchy is out of control! Why even vote? The election is being bought. What if they gave an election and no one came? :) Even better, start a movement to pressure the Oligarchs into dividing up that $2 billion amongst all the adults in the country---a much better use. All should finally be able to see clearly that American politics is a complete farce. Those elected are nothing but puppets to the wishes of the mega, transnational corporations...and it's our fault. We let it happen.
Unless you prefer a plutocracy to a democracy or republic, of course... but where in the Constitution does it say we are a plutocracy, with life, liberty, and justice for the rich at the expense of everyone else?
Well, yes the White House can be bought. Does not say much for either candidate, does it? It is all for themselves. The time of the patriot president is officially over. Professional politicians is all the American citizen/tax payer is going to get. Sadly we get these power junkies without any accountability. They are elected into the "monarchy" rather than being born there. That is the only difference between us and any other monarchy. TERM LIMITS TERM LIMITS !!!!!!

This country will not fall by the might of the sword but by someone carring the constitution in one hand and the bible in another.
Looks like someone has to buy the bible!
