We need a "House cleaning". Until we vote everyone in congress out and replace them with totally new people nothing is going to change. We have a pack of rich people in congress and the senate( you have to be well off to afford to run) who can't look our way until it's time to suck in some more votes. The rhetoric is perfect, the performance is deplorable. We spend $6 billion a year to run an organization that couldn't get more self-serving if they came straight from foreign nobility( which our government has failed to protect us from in-spite of what the constitution says.)
Before the last election cycle, I saw bumper stickers and billboards all over town that seamed to be clear - The senator of our state is finally going to be replaced. No one believed otherwise. On election day, all but two counties voted to do just that. The two most populous counties voted to retain him for another six years. Our senator will be in office for 30 years!
What happened? Were all of those bumper-sticker folks lying or too lazy to vote?
This is a wonderful story. I felt that it was speaking directly to me; I have been unemployed for 2-1/2 long years. Thanks for showing this piece on your show - it gives me hope. It's great to see that people haven't forgotten us, and are trying to help.
Education is the only path to find a better job/career, I have been out of work sense 2005, and in really bad low wage jobs sense 2002 when Sprint PCS laid off 3000 people from the 9/11 attack!
This is a good start in only one city. There are many other cities out there that share this same situation. Like others, unemployment is a joke. I was only eligible for 6 months of Unemployment Compensation, not the maximum available. I am currently on Emergency UC. 23 job applications & 7 interviews later, I am still unemployed, with only 10 weeks of EUC left. I am willing to work, like I have since I was 14 years old.
We are a nation of cowards...that is why we en masse are NOT angry. Many scoffed at Occupy Wall Street when in fact they are the closest thing to having a spine we have seen in years in America. While the ignorant circus of presidential candidates try to control how many days or ways we pray..they are NOT addressing on any level these people. Those who are ready and willing to work but have no jobs!!!!!
We watch other countries revolt because they want change and we sit back like the cowards we are. We need to be revolting for change. Wall Street and politician's across this country continue to be more concerned with the well-being of other countries and not american citizens. Illegal citizens are given more empathy. When will enough be ENOUGH????!!!!
I am part of the carnage. I was a 99er in November and now that unemployment benefits are gone, I am homeless with my two children. I was a professional/homeowner and I, too, wonder when will this ever break? I do feel seperated from my employment and connections now & wonder how to make the way back, how to even survive with my kids. My story: http://healingfine.com/homeless-for-the-holiday-a-thanksgiving-reflection/ Bless Joe Carbone. I wish such a program was here in California. I'm ready to claw back and house my kids again!
This is a great program, and congratulations to all of those who got jobs and to the man who started this program (Mr. Carbone). But we have to remember that there are STILL 3.8 jobseekers for every job. If everybody out there had access to and went through such a program, we would still have a large number of people who are among the long-term unemployed. The problem isn't as much improving skills and confidence as it is increasing the number of jobs.. and the number of employers who are willing to work with older workers who are among the long-term unemployed.
But we do need more of these programs.... No two ways about it.
Thank you for an awesome report. I am unemployed for almost a year now and know exactly what these people are going through. The stress, the constant fear.I am also facing divorce at the same time so the stress/fear factor is doubled! But what Joe Carbone's program proves is that all we need is a chance. Get us in front of the employers so we can show our abilities and prove we can do the job. That's why the "must be currently employed" attitude makes absolutely NO SENSE! I hope employers who have been discriminating were watching this report. Thank you again.
An amazing effort by one individual that needs to be considered across the country. Approaching my 4th year of unemployment, I personally felt this message and hope there will be better days ahead.
You are not alone; and I was just as emotional by seeing educated individuals struggling. Having a Master's and extensive marketing knowledge and still I'm struggling. Hoping for relief soon. Best of luck to you.
