Say "sex", any kind of sex, and this country sits right up; meanwhile as we chew on this ancient topic, the world out there is falling apart; and it's not gay sex that is ruining it. We need to acquire what my mother called 'a little decorum' and turn our energies to more important pursuits.
We need to get the word out to religious communities that anti-gay people are twisting God's words to condone their hate.
Homosexuality is not a sin. The Bible is constantly being taken out of context to support anti-gay views. Scholars who have studied the Bible in context of the times and in relation to other passages have shown those passages (Leviticus, Corinthians, Romans, etc) have nothing to do with homosexuality. These passages often cherry-picked while ignoring the rest of the Bible. The sins theses passages are referring to are idolatry, Greek temple sex worship, prostitution, pederasty with teen boys, and rape, not homosexuality or two loving consenting adults.
This was taken from another poster that shows why we need to legalize gay marriage. If you don't feel for this person after reading it, you simply aren't human.
"I am not sure what our President thinks of this dicission but coming from a poor family and knowing what discrimination is all about I would assume he would not care if "Gays" have equal rights. The whole reason why they are asking for rights to be considered married is from the same reason why I would be for it. My own life partner commited suicide in our home with a gun to his heart. After a 28 year union I was deprived to even go his funeral. We had two plots next to each other. But because we did not have a marriage cirtificate "(Legal Document)" of our union his mother had him cremated and his ashes taken back to Missouri where we came from. That is only one example how painful it is. His suicide tramatized me so much and her disregard for my feelings only added to my heartach. That happened on March 21 of 2007 and I still cannot type this without crying for the trauma I have to endure each day. Oh did I mention I am in an electric wheelchair for life? Yes I am and it is very diffacult to find another mate when you are 58 and in a wheelchair. "
For those of you claiming homosexuality is a "lifestyle", that is a false and ignorant statement. Homosexuality is not a choice. Just like you don't choose the color of your skin, you cannot choose whom you are sexually attracted to. Virtually all major psychological and medical experts agree that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most gay people will tell you its not a choice. Common sense will tell you its not a choice. While science is relatively new to studying homosexuality, studies tend to indicate that its biological.
There is overwhelming scientific evidence that homosexuality is not a choice. Sexual orientation is generally a biological trait that is determined pre-natally, although there is no one certain thing that explains all of the cases. "Nurture" may have some effect, but for the most part it is biological.
And it should also be noted that: "It is worth noting that many medical and scientific organizations do believe it is impossible to change a person's sexual orientation and this is displayed in a statement by American Academy of Pediatrics, American Counseling Association, American Association of School Administrators, American Federation of Teachers, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, American School Health Association, Interfaith Alliance Foundation, National Association of School Psychologists, National Association of Social Workers, and National Education Association."
No debate about Gay lifestyle being a natural preference, rather than a choice. Much the same way as pedophiles prefer children and others prefer bestiality. Our urges, just because we are born with them, do not give them legitimacy. Don't pretend that they do. Just admit you are giving in to your own particular urges to do what you want. Or, you can choose to resist those urges that harm both yourself, your family, and society at large. In an honest debate over this issue, we all must admit that the debate is only a matter of where you place your wretch level. Otherwise, no gay person can condemn pedophilia or bestiality. Resisting our natural urges used to be what separated us from animals. Now it has somehow become a virtue and a matter of personal liberty. Giving it laudable names won't change what we know it to be.
I've never heard anyone say homosexuality was a virtue or laudable. Nor have I ever heard heterosexuality called those things, and would laugh just as loud if I did. Comparing homosexuality to pedophilia or bestiality is clearly the act of a fool and/or a bigot. The difference is obvious: a) homosexuality isn't a crime, and b) it's between two consenting adults. How does homosexuality hurt anyone, anyone's family, or society at large? How does it "erode traditional marriage?" These are absurd claims and unsupportable. And no, resisting natural urges does not separate us from animals. Nothing does; we ARE animals.
Children below 18 are deemed not to have sufficient intelligence to make choices. Animals, similarly, cannot choose. Society has a responsibility to protect them from those who would coerce them into something they cannot oppose.
On the other hand, with two consensual adults it is a matter between them and does not involve society at large which only has a mandate to defend those who have no voice, nor violate the principle of "Do no harm" which is the only correct principle of law except under religious doctrine.
Since America is secular, I do not think that your particular doctrine must be binding for all others.
This is how it becomes a matter of personal liberty.
As for marriage, that is an issue for the government to decide as marriage is a legal agreement under law. I do not believe in gay marriage because marriage, historically, is primarily an institution based on the desire to raise children rather than love. But that is simply my opinion, ultimately it is for voters to decide what to do within the bounds of the constitution.
Newt was half right except Obama's views places people into groups such as sexual preference or race ...look at the way Ron Paul views racism and sexual preference...
"Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than individuals . . . By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called " diversity" actually perpetuate racism. Their obsession with racial group identity is inherently racists . . . we should understand that racism will endure until we stop thinking in terms of groups and begin thinking in terms of individual liberty."
Obama's view seems to be that they all belong to the same group...Fellow Americans, President Obama has said repeatedly that these people deserve to be treated equally under the law. Black Americans, gay and lesbian Americans racism and bigotry persist because of the groups that wish to continue to deny other Americans these rights. President Obama did not place these people into groups and Alabel them. This is done by those who would deny them equality. As if your freedom is diminished by others being free
Actually, at least Gingrich was honest. The Republican Party wants to make federal ban on gay marriage (so much for state's rights). If this question was asked to Romney, he would have danced around the question and pandered. At least Gingrich told the truth. You don't have to agree with his views, and I don't, but he did tell the truth, give hinm some credit for that.
Even though i am much more liberal than conservative, the ability to just give an answer, without twisting words around, up is a skilled the majority of politicians lack.
If i could vote and was conservative, he would have just won himself a vote
Gingrich was honest half way that is he did not finish the though if he had he would say everyone in this country should vote for sombody other than himself.
While I am not a Gingrich supporter, nor any of the Republican candidates, this is an example of the respectful political exchange we need in this country. We disagree, but we don't need to vilify and crucify our political opponents. Lay out your position, try and get the votes to lead the country, but shake hands and may the best side win with many issues at stake. Always remember it's a fellow American on the other side of the arguement. Kudos to both Newt and the person questioning him.

The National Library of Medicine pubs confirm that sexual orientation is natural, biologically induced in the first trimester of pregnancy, morally neutral, immutable, neither contagious nor learned, bearing no relation to an individuals ability to form deep and lasting relationships, to parent children, to work or to contribute to society.
From the American Psychological Association: homosexuality is normal; homosexual relationships are normal.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Association and American Psychiatric Association have endorsed civil marriage for same-sex couples because marriage strengthens mental and physical health and longevity of couples, and provides greater legal and financial security for children, parents and seniors.
America's premier child/mental health associations endorse marriage equality.
