All of these people that win millions of dollars from the lottery need to start helping too! It's unfair that one person wins 250 million dollars, while there are people living on the streets that need help!! This doesn't make sense!!

I truly love your comment mariestanley. So true, and may I add, all these filthy rich people and people like the ones who win millions of dollars need to help people in this world instead of piling up riches in their accounts and all that money sitting in their bank accounts. I would surely, if I won that kind of money, help my family out, give to charities that need it the most. When we do unto others who are in much needed help, we do unto Christ and we will be blessed for that. I am so sorry for these children, but they will be strong from this.

This story inspired my latest poem "Mobile Home" http://thesop.org/story/20111130/a-poem-mobile-home.html
far too many familes live this poem every day. Together we can find a way to change this. I am hoping to start a program that would supply free gas cards to families living in the vehicles. This could be a good start.

I'm not if you have ever been without a job or feared losing your home. I have and at the time had 2 small children. I was helped by others then and have tried to repay this many times.

It would be easy to lay blame at Republicans and Democrats. Perhaps it is no fault of any one person or group. The Bible states there will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land (Deuteronomy 15:11). Jesus said we will always have the poor with us (Mark 14:7). Let's accept that poverty is as an absolute truth in all countries and then lets act upon it.

I would like to get some people to join with my family to help the Metzger, Wiley, and Coates families to get an apartment, clothing and food.

If you would like to help these families, then please send a note to my email: jlproctor@q.com. We can then discuss how best to proceed.

Thank You.

It was either a blatant example of media 'democratization' or exceedingly bad taste ( pun intended ) to have a piece about the flavor Industry follow a story about the homeless, who only care about having food, whether or not it would satisfy a gourmand.

Very sincerely,

they received 4,000,000 dollars to feed and shelter the homeless that amount of money could have purchased 250 to 300 families houses in detroit and that would double considering that in detroit theyre selling houses at 1,000 to 5,000.........hmmmmm makes you wonder why wouldnt they just purchase some housing !?

They make a choice between buying food or paying rent. Buying a home is out of the realm of possibility.

Well heree's the thing: there's a reason why housing is so cheap in Detroit -- there are no jobs there either! So why would you move that many people so far away to Detroit? You'd just be trading one problem for another. Housing is fairly cheap in that part of Florida, it's just that when you have NO money, everything's expensive.

with no employment in the detroit area and winter heating how long could they survive the hard life in detroit ??

$1,600 per house - on the high end? Surely you jest. And then what. How to pay for utilities and food and clothing... Go take a course in economics and then weigh in again.

Liz...please excuse the questioning but how did you find that this was a contact for the Metzgers? I need to know this is legitimate. Could you please comment and is this still a current PO box? Thank you.

With Christmas coming and these people needing so much isn't there anything we can do? Who do we contact to send them a gift card or something so they too can have a brighter day, if only for a moment.
Please let me know.

How many families did make money from those weddings? They provided work for florists, designers, bakers, valets, cleaners, caterers and more. When you spend $10,000 on a wedding, it doesn't just melt in the air, it gets paid to people who need their jobs and who spend money helping the economy. And if it's the wedding I think you're talking about, it was all spent right here in the USA.

Also, we should be aware that with "homelessness" comes "hunger". Dr. OZ has teamed up Share Our Strength, to help feed hungry children. Please donate if you can and share this link with family, friends, neighbors, etc etc...

Before you rush into this let me suggest you check out "Share Our Strength" in Charity Navigator. It is rated 3 stars and there are a lot of 4 star charities out there. Also, note that the top named principals in the organization have the same last name and between them make $400,000 per year. Hmmmmmmm!
