Steve Croft Great reporting! Don't quit on this issue. I am willing to bet that these politicians staffs are privy to inside information also. Could you somehow publish how much money has been made by our federal elected officials with this advance information. I would stat with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid!
Clearly, "honest graft" is synonymous for crony capitalism and politics as usual. In short, the enomity of unprecedented shenanigans and skull-drudgery of political members of our elite congress is mind-boggling.
This is powerful. Laws apply to all EXCEPT the law makers. Makes one think the OWS folks are at the place. Perhaps in front of the capitol is the best place to air their grievances.

Insider trading (buying or selling securities based on material non-public info) is illegal for every American except a handful of "above the law" citizens for whom the rules were written to exclude...Congress (and immediate staff).
So, unfortunately, this 60 Minutes piece is old news.
It seems so obvious that anyone elected to Congress should be encouraged, if not required, to put their liquid assets into a blind trust while serving public office.
Go ahead, I'm now ready to receive the token response from a Capitol Hill representative about how I don't understand politics and this is actually quite a complicated matter. Of course it is, Congress is involved!
You are right, why can't they put their liquid assets into a blind trust while serving in office ? This should be a law... now how in the world are we going to make them make a law like that about themselves? It's almost as if we need a seperate group of people to govern the lawmakers, to make sure they have to follow the same laws the rest of us do. To make sure someone is actually reading the new legislation, instead of simply voting it in because some lobbyist helped them raise millions for their next campaign. SO frustrating !
I think Steve Kroft is the most prominent investigator in the US for finding things wrong with the system, like "The bet that blew up Wall Street," or story on commodities--speculators driving up the cost of gas and food, 5$/gal gas not based on supply and demand but speculators buying stock in ownership of the actual shipment. If Congress people should be required to set up a blind trust (they wouldn't know where money is invested to affect decisions), and it should be illegal to seek out nonpublic info in return for money. Wish the presidential candidates would take up this issue, what have they got to lose?, with approval rating of Congress around 11% it's a win win.
Why isn't something being done about this? The politicians are corrupt, the big banks are corrupt and the repugs wonder why people are pissed off and demonstrating! I also blame Pres. Obama for not going on national TV and telling the American public what is going on! He should do that to make sure he will be reelected. Help us all if a repug is elected. Pelosi also acted dumb when Steve Kroft asked her about the visa credit card stocks she and her husband bought. She also needs to go...she's way too rich and needs to retire.
Pelosi does need to go and so does Harry Reid...so many of the Democrats are really greedy and corrupt. I don't trust any politican. They are all criminals.

Our powerful Washington political representatives have lost the respect from the American people. They are in it for the personal financial gains that insider trading allows them. How can anyone be so corrupt and look the American people in the eye and say they are committed to building an America we can be proud of. I don't even want to vote anymore. They have lost the moral or ethical responsibility to represent our nation. God help us.
Yes God help us,this is a government of the people ,by the people ,for the people. They are voted in to serve the people and whats best for the people.pass laws that help not destroy free fair and balanced prosperity for all.You lose when they gain, when you gain they are just servants of you.How many has sold you out for their own gain passed laws to prohibit your gain,so they could gain from you, your sons, daughters, grand child, these will never be free to gain because these, owe massive amounts of taxes before their born, sold out, never free,God said this,Matthew 10.24,The disciple or those who are sent,is not above his master, nor the servant above his Lord. The ones we sent forgot who sent them, and now pass laws to be above or to rule over those who are their masters the people .God Bless CBS,for this good bad news thank you.
