I think it's kind of odd that 60 Minutes would leave in the revelation about Madoff's 70 year-old sister-in-law without asking any of the obvious follow up questions. Does she drive a cab because the family won't help her financially, or does she refuse their help? And if it's the latter, why? Does she consider the family, and its money, to be tainted?
Jealousy just drips from some of these comments. For some people, even the truth isn't enough. They'd much prefer to find objects to hate just to keep the blood flowing in their constricted veins. It's entirely probable that the family has attempted to assist the Aunt, if she's still talking them. One can't honestly expect all the intricate details of a family's personal relations be aired on (and in) 60 minutes. Frankly, I can totally see Madoff getting trapped in it, with no way out of the monster. It is just as human as is this mediated vicarious consumption of another's shame.
The aunt is driving a taxi. Her sister is worth $2.2 million. Her nephew is worth millions, because he never did answer the question. And according to her nephew, he is ashamed and feels horrible about it all...then Andrew, why not give your 70 year old aunt some of those millions to ease your shame. Why Ruth don't you give her some of your money so she doesn't have to drive a taxi at 70! I feel Mark killed himself because he couldn't live with the guilt. Not his father's guilt, but his own.
All of you should be in prison there is no way that two brothers that knew as much as they did in the financial district did not know what their father did. All of your money should be taken away from you and you should have to drive cabs yourself. Be realistic if my father was brining home millions and I kept asking for more I would know what was going on too. You all made up the the plot of what happened and Bernie took the fall for all of you. Ruth, you should be driving a cab or working in Wal-mart or perhaps working as housekeeper for all the people you and your family put into bankruptcy. I hope know one ever feels sorry for you, you are all a bunch of liars and the truth will eventually come out!
So true about the 70 yr old aunt...where does Andrew and his desparate housewife wanna be live? A poshy NYC place I am sure...now they are peddling a book? There were countless ways they could've made things "right" if they weren't guilty. If my father called a family meeting like the this guy did, I'd be thinking something was up with his health...they didn't. They family meeting was when they planned out how he would take the fall alone (since the jig was up) and how to go about doing so. Like the sons calling the FBI the next day etc.
Seriously, these people have millions of dollars, and they are letting their 70YO aunt who was wiped out by bernie drive taxi after they BK'd her. These people have no heart.
