Unfortunately, My Plate suffers from political compromise, and obfuscation through omission. Outside of actual food - meal environment, timing of meals, speed of ingestion, amount of chewing, are important before even getting to the food itself where extent of cooking and choice of carbohydrate are the most important omissions. Fiber (as well as some nutrients) is disrupted by extensive cooking. The fibrous binding and slowing absorption of starches (glucose) - BUT more importantly fructose - which is only metabolized in the liver - and most importantly , if rapidly absorbed in a non glycogen depleted liver (read most of us most of the time)..it then goes via the palmitate shunt directly to fat and fatty liver. If you don't know about NASH - you should look it up... Those behind the My Plate has to argue with sucrose (1/2 fructose) and high fructose corn interests
@Charlotte-Elizabeth, I was following your comment until the part about "local law enforcement acting like military with the Department of Homeland Security, a federal government in turn acting like the local constabulary telling us what to feed our kids for fear of indictments."
What on earth are you talking about? Did you watch Mr. Rocca's piece? Where did you get the ludicrous notion that the government is "disciplining parents" based on how they feed their children? That is not occurring. Either you made the whole thing up, or you're getting your news from some extremely disreputable sources.
Next time you feel compelled to make an outlandish claim, be sure to cite your sources, so others can judge whether they're trustworthy.
