correction - on the first sentence above at the top, the property ended up being inherited by the church, instead of the priests famaily.

What btw is permanent in the church has been its crimes over the centuries.

From Hitler not excommunicated to the burning of women as witches, to its part in the 1000 yr dark ages and the Christian Crusades against the Muslims that over 600 years mudered tens of millions.

No wonder some Muslims hate us. The details are lost in history, but the hate lingers on in societies which all have a long memory.

Old men who cant accept any change are the curse of civilzation in general. Its a wonder they still dont burn people at the stake.

go take a look at the following websites. this church has been and still is a filthy monstrosity which only wants power and money and money and power.

WWW.catholicarrogance.org by a priest with 24 years of catholic education

www.nobeliefs.com/nazis.htm, which explains indirectly why the church has not yet excommunicated the biggest murderer of all time. Hitler, born and baptised in very catholic Austria in 1888.

And of course they dont want to change. Faith is faith. just beliefs, once you begin to break the faith, people begin to question and the whole story falls apart.

Dolan states that the majority of child abuse is committed by married men, perhaps implying that married men would be more dangerous as priests than celibate men. That does not follow logically, since men who commit themselves to celibate priesthood form a specially selected population. The only valid way to decide would be to allow married men to become priests and tabulate the number of abuse cases over an extended period of time.

I've always looked to Sixty Minutes as the cutting edge of investigative reporting, not for stories of Hale Fellows Well Met--well that's what we've got with Morley Safer's puff piece on Archbishop Dolan. Oh yeah, we got the mandatory wringing of hands over the sex abuse crisis, and the traditional bow to John Allen, the media-annointed Vaticanologist who has traded access to Vatican authorities instead of hard hitting reporting. Dolan has ascended to the post of the most important U.S. cleric precise because he sings in the front pew of the Vatican choir--not because he's gong to tackle any serious questions. take a look at what the survivor's network of those abused by priests say about him. why didn't Safer's producers get the 411 on this? It's laziness--big media talking to big church. Shame on 60 minutes--you've lost your touch! check out:
www.snapnetwork.org and search for Archbishop Timothy Dolan. not a pretty record.

Archbishop Dolan is very likeable. The beer-drinking, food-loving churchman with the hearty laugh and the "common touch" is also an extremely slippery customer. Even the matchless Morley Safer couldn't get a straight answer from him.
Dolan's affection and loyalty is clearly for the organization of the Roman Catholic Church, not to Jesus Christ, whose teachings he consistently ignores. Dolan is a true "company man," more concerned with preserving the status quo than with ministering to his flock. Dolan's loyalty to what he calls the Catholic experience is a perfect illustration of what Jesus meant in his rebuke to the Pharisees:

"He replied, 'Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
'These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.'
You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions." - Mark 7:6-8

Dolan can practice his Spanish from now until Christ comes again, but Catholics in the Western Hemisphere are leaving the Church in droves. Repulsed by sexual scandals that go back to the 1950s -- not a mere decade as Safer's piece suggests -- and by hypocrisy and greed within the Roman Catholic Church, Spanish speaking Catholics are seeking congregations that truly follow Christ's command to "feed my lambs."
God help us all if this creepy, Satanic charmer is ever elevated to St. Peter's throne.

what could be worse then a man whose earliest lessons were learned in the period of the 1930s in Nazi Germany.

who in 2009 UNexcommunicated a Bishop Williamson, who is a former Anglican Bishop who has denied or minimized the Holocaust. Which speaks directly to the period and place of his upbringing.

There seems to be a lot of hate and judgement coming from you. Please do your research there are more sexual scandals in the world that have nothing to do with the Catholic Church. Are you speaking out for those injustices as well? I am Catholic and I hate the sins of the priest that committed a sin against children, Christ and His church. But I also know that the church helps and "Feeds Christ's lambs" more than any other in the world. I don't think you believe Christ words and much as you claim to read it. If you read it and don't learn, your a problem not a solution.

The reality is that as Dolan makes thoughtless analogies about baseball and gay marriage, children are committing suicide and people are dying of anti-gay hate attacks on the street. It is time for those silent nuns, priests, and bishops in the Catholic Church to stand up for the protection of human life and basic Christian values.

What more do you suggest they do? Offending priests are being rehabilitated, disciplined, or flat-out removed from there position. Would it not be hypocritical for an institution, one founded by a man who said "Forgive your brother not seven times, but seven times seventy times", to not give second chances? Jesus came to preach redemption and salvation through repentance and God's endless mercy. Should not these sex abusers---although I agree that their crime is horrendous, shameful, and disappointing to come from a leader in the Church--- experience the same mercy? And I would think that the Catholic Church does nothing less than rigorously campaign for "the protection of human life and basic Christian values"

The one good thing to come out of thes whole sexual abuse disaster is that so many catholics have decided to pick up a Bible to find out what IT says, not the "Wholly Corrupted Church". When they do, they discover many interesting things! Such as Jesus saying,"Call NO man 'father', for you have One Father and He is in heaven." And "Thou shall not make for yourselves ANY image, you shall not kneel down to an image or pray to an image, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God."(paraphrased 2nd commandment, Exodus);and that the apostle Peter-actually Shimon Kefa- was MARRIED!! We know because Jesus-actually Yeshua- healed his mother-in-law of a fever. And how Yeshua felt about ANYONE hurting a child or destroying his faith,"It would be better for that person to have a mill-stone tied about his neck and be thrown into the deepest sea than to be a snare to ONE of these little ones!" Alot of these priests are going to be in for a BIG surprise when they meet Him for judgement. Defy your bishops! Read your bibles FOR YOURSELVES! You'll find it VERY interesting; and then be wondering WHY you weren't taught these things!? Well...guess! Why do you think the church fought so hard to keep it from being published in the common languages everyone spoke? And burned alive any who DID read it in their own tongue? THEY HAVE TO KEEP THEIR POWER, and CAN'T WHEN YOU KNOW THE TRUTH!! Happy reading! Start with John, then Romans, then Luke & Acts.

Rather than correct you on every account, let's just cover graven images.

People who oppose religious statuary forget about the many passages where the Lord commands the making of statues. For example: "And you shall make two cherubim of gold [i.e., two gold statues of angels]; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end; of one piece of the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be" (Ex. 25:18-20).

David gave Solomon the plan "for the altar of incense made of refined gold, and its weight; also his plan for the golden chariot of the cherubim that spread their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord. All this he made clear by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all, all the work to be done according to the plan" (1 Chr. 28:18-19). David's plan for the temple, which the biblical author tells us was "by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all," included statues of angels.

Similarly Ezekiel 41:17-18 describes graven (carved) images in the idealized temple he was shown in a vision, for he writes, "On the walls round about in the inner room and [on] the nave were carved likenesses of cherubim."

Some people label Scientology and the Mormon Church as cults. Take any of Abrahamic religions (Jewish, Chrisitianity and Islam)... What is the difference between the first group and the second group?

New religions are called cults... With time, if the last, they are referred to as religions.

Ergo, all are, in reality, cults -- inculcated by, in the main, by your parents' heritage and thier cult du jour.

There are 3 qualities which define a cult: They ALL deviate greatly from the Bible, (Christianity was built upon the Hebrew scriptures + the teachings of Jesus- Islam was built upon the teachings of Muhammed, which ALTERED the Hebrew's ancient, meticulously preserved texts- despite what they say, they DO NOT believe in the same god as Jews and Christians.)All flavors of Christian churches believe the same essentials of faith, regardless of name or denomination.
2) All cults rely upon additional, MANDATORY texts besides or with the Bible, ie: the "Book of Mormon"(an incredibly boring and innacurate story of the Jews who supposedly sailed to America in 700 bc, only to fight with the ancient Indians!) , The Watchtower publications, including their own, erroneous translation of the Bible, and "Dianetics" -and MANY others-by the whacko sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard-whom everyone knows only started a "church" to avoid paying taxes!! In fact, most cults are about MONEY!
3)All cults say you MUST belong to THEIR group in order to be saved! And live by THEIR oppressive rules. In the Mormon belief system, the MEN even get to be gods over their own universe! Sadly, their wives get stuck making eternal "spirit babies" by the millions! Even tho' the Bible says there IS NO MARRIAGE in heaven, and sorry guys, no sex either(you won't miss it!)
When determining if soemthing is a cult, ask: How many Mormon Hospitals for the poor are out there? Seen any Jehovah's Witness orphanages? How about Scientlogy feeding and relief programs have you heard of? Do you have to lay down loads of cash to join, or buy "witnessing supplies"? Do they say everyone else in the world, except them. are damned/doomed? Methodists don't care if you become a baptist or go to a non-denominational church! We all have the same goals- love God and serve the people of the world. There IS such a thing as TRUTH- and there is a Great Lie. Stick with the Bible alone!
