I am not an expert on kids so I will give you the reality instead of the studies. I was a kid so I do recall what it is like. The first thing is that parenting is not an art or a science. It is an ongoing experience. You and the kid are going to screw up and you both learn from it. However what you learn with one child might be irrelevant to raising another one. It seems that the biggest problem is in listening to experts because it suggests that there is some normal, average, "right" way to do it when in reality every action and decision is only approximately right or wrong. Forget the experts and interact with the kid. On the other hand if KC were to adjust her professional rates I could suggest her as a baby sitter. Broad experience and the ability to cope with unforeseen events are definite assets so I think she could manage a kid without calling Dr. Spock for advice. Now everyone quit buying books on parenting and instead buy a book for the kid...then let them read it to you. Everything will work out but there will be some rough spots along the way.
I just love this segment. Outstanding parenting advice which I will share with my clients and social media following. Thanks Katie for creating such a fabulous forum!
