Absolutely 100% necessary for shows to be happening like this in America. I don't know if this will play on TV but I hope so. I am not Muslim and have been seeking clarification on so many of these issues. Mr. Hameeduddin rightly brings up the issue of the lack of education in Muslim countries but we, as Americans, also have to take responsibility for our ignorance regarding the Islamic faith. The media and news media can have such an impact on where this conversation goes and this show was definitely a step in the right direction.
Very informative and interesting discussion. I think it's important to learn about and respect the beliefs of others even if that's not what I believe. I guess we need to remember that there are good people in EVERY faith and race; and there are bad people in EVERY faith and race. We can't let the "bad" people overshaddow the good.
Good Morning Ms. Couric! I am so so proud and inspired to see the efforts you have pulled together to help ease the stereotype of Islam in America. We are truly the kids picked last for dodgeball right now, but with amazing public figures like you who are so philantropic, we will earn our place of respect in this great nation. I would very seriously love to join your efforts, you can see more about me on YouTube.com/TheNicoleQueen, or just Google: Nicole Queen.
Wow Komrade Katie, way to ask the tough questions ....again. How are we suppose to believe anything about Islam when your four guests disagree with each other? So I'm guessing there's millions of versions of the "peaceful" Islam & millions of the "radical". I feel so much better now. Thanks for clearing things up.
The bottom line is that there should be only one official peace-endorsing version of the Qu'ran. Any other version is a clear abuse of the Prophet. It's this kind of Qu'ran abuse that we must confront. It's not the Holy Book itself, it's the terrorists who have no such golden rule or real interpretation of the Qu'ran. They only have their self-interests in mind first. These are the people that stain the Muslim world! They are why we've seen such an explosive nationwide criticism of the religion! Also, yes, it would help if we remove illegal occupation of all officially rooted Muslim territories. But while we still have an uphill battle to create the State of Palestine as well as remove other foreign countries from Muslim territories, these goals can only be achieved through education and diplomacy. Fear and violence only sets all of us backwards! Let's teach the world and each other that the Qu'ran is meant for peaceful purposes, not for violent jihad! Let's do it ASAP!
Would people please quite stating that there are 1.5 billion muslims as if it is a lifestyle choice. In countries where Islam is the dominant religion, if born into a muslim family, you are a muslim until death by law and societal pressure. There is no choice in switching to another religion; no opting out of religion altogether. If you want a government job then you need to convert. Catholics and Mormons do the same. Religion is just a bunch of Stone Age rules enforced to keeping men at the head of the table of power and inflating their number of followers through law and coercion helps them appear legitimate.
Your comment Godless_too: "Catholics and Mormons do the same."
Name one time when a Catholic and/or Mormon converts for "social reasons". The whole Christian faith is just that, faith. Belief there is a God, he is NOT me, and He did come, give his life as a living sacrafice (for ALL man kind), as a remission for sins. The very essence of Christianity is salvation is obtained by just believing... Nothing a person does or does not do matters, towards "earning".
In other words, not attending church means nothing. It would be comparable to changing the color of your blood. For it is truely what lies in your heart that seperates.
Mormons and Catholics (oddly enough both believe in doctrine other than Christians, and therefore are not to be classified as such) did have "blood atonement"... but it's not practiced. Outside the United States, Muslims practice and enforce this ritual. In fact, they arrest, convict and execute converts "from" Islam quite frequently.
Real sad part, in the teachings of Islam, Jesus is called a Prophet. The disconnect is this, if He told the truth, then He is the Son of God, and therefore MORE than a Prophet.. If he lied, then He is not worthy of a prophet, and His teaching would be false.. Thereby making the subsequent teachings of Islam that support Jesus' teaching, also false...
As a muslim, I would like to thank you and the network for having coverage about the misconceptions in Islam. It's important to share with Americans the core values and differences in Islam. Unfortunately, the muslims, except Imam Khalid, that you have on your show are not qualified speakers for Islam. I have every respect for all of them but they don't have the credentials in Islam to speak about Islam. I agree that muslims must accept our differences and accept our problems within the islamic community. However, the core issues or radical movements came from those muslims who misinterpret Islamic texts and exert false judgements/rulings. Also, you have those muslims who blend in their backward practices in their culture with Islam. Let's face it, we have more than 1.5 billions muslims around the world. Overall, I believe that this show brings more confusions than good to the American people. Please bring the right people such as Imam Suhaib Webb, Imam Zaid Shakir, Ms. Dalia Mogahed, Dr. Ingrid Mattson, Dr. Hakim Jackson, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqui, and many more. These people know Islam.
Modesty in the Qur'an is obligatory on both men and women, and women are oblige to cover both hair and body,no need to be apologetic about this issue, nor ashamed!
Too much philosophical answers and not enough Islamic ideological answers, making a statement that Hijab and other obligatory tenants are not in the Qur'an is Kufr(Disbelief)! If they are not going represent Isalm in the truest matter they need to step a side and let those who are capable and not apologetic present the Truth about Islam!
