John & Susan treated Chris like a pet? It seems like they just were giving pretty clothes, taking fancy places, spending money for what they want for... Those kind of giving are not a true love nor what children need.
The perents should have known before adopting children that they are not pets.

They don't listen to you, they don't follow your rule, unless they trust you. When I see this story, I did not feel any loveness at all.
Yes, very tragic, that they weren't able to put more loving effort into dealing with their son's early acting out. Both for their son and themselves. He asked for money, but what he really wanted/needed was love-time, attention,emotional support, things that money is a poor substitute for. Raising children successfully is the most difficult job there is, especially if you're not prepared to devote yourself unconditionally. Not all of us are cut out for it. I am heartened to see, that people here can have empathy for the son, despite his horrible choices.
ayasha2010, did you even watch the video? John Sutton was shot TWICE IN THE HEAD. He is completely BLIND as a result. He was in no condition to aid his wife at the time. He did not even realize what was happening. BECAUSE HE HAD BEEN SHOT IN THE HEAD. Some viewers are dumber than a sack of dull hammers. Furthermore, the son is a bald-faced sociopath and has been since he was a youngster. It's not clear why he is that way but he threatened to kill both his parents and his sister when he was 16. He's a complete narcissist. Nice of you to take his side though.
Again, no one can listen to and watch John Sutton without seeing he is a self centered self loving only man. It does not matter that his wife was in another room. A man is shot in a room separate from his wife's. The first thought that would have gone through this man's head was "oh My god is my wife okay? Did they harm her too? He did not even think about her whatsoever. All of Sutton's traits show a selfish man with an abusive mindset. I think Christiopher grew up in sheer hell. And giving a child money, trips, etc does not make it then okay to abuse them all you want to.
Very good insight, ayasha2010!! There were many that hailed John for his bravado and strength. How much of Christopher's "real" needs were met? Not materially. That he was loaded with. I mean the intangibles, the real needs of children... like love and attention
It is disgusting to see so many people get on a board just to judge others. Mr. & Mrs. Sutton did nothing wrong in the wrong that they handled or raised their children. Every parent is guilty of spoiling their children in some way and in regards to the comment that Mr. Sutton needed to show his son the wrath of God... not only is that a ridiculous statement, but in todays society, its not even possible to physically discipline your child without social services at your door and who is to say that doing this would have prevented this horrible incident from occurring? Nobody, because nobody can predict the future. Mr. & Mrs. Sutton made an attempt, many attempts I'm sure, but like most parents, they wre blinded by the love for their children. No parent wants to believe that their child is capable of such a horrible act, especially against their parents. The people on here that judge this family in the sense they could have prevented this by "doing more" are ignorant. & In defense to the girlfriend, there are plenty of people that wish others dead and express this outloud, most do not go and commit this heinous act though, so it is possible she thought he was simply blowing off steam. Imagine if everytime someone said "I wish they were dead" it was reported to the police... they would be extremely busy.
My sympathies to Mr. Sutton for this tragedy, this was an unfortunate occurrence and I wish him the best in whatever may come & my prayers are with him in the hopes that he may keep his and his wifes' attackers behind bars.
While, definitely there can be genetic determinants of character, a child still does not feel the way their son did with no reason. Personally from this episode, I find John Sutton to be an extremely self centered jerk. What kind of life did Christopher actually have? It is entirely possible that he was emotionally and verbally abused growing up. Then after wanting somehow to free himself of his abusive parents, he was discovered and sent off to a place where he was traumatized. Father's can be very controlling and abusive toward sons, but doting on their daughters. So what if they gave Christopher things? Does giving a child money and things make it 'okay' to verbally and emotionally abuse them? I think this man is a jerk. That comes through like a beacon. The wife was having an affair. She wanted out too.

If I was Mrs. Sutton and found that death plan note, I would have taken that freak to the dumpster myself. And his fiance? OMG! What a freak is she, to actually not tell the Suttons about Christopher's constant rambles about wanting and planning to kill his parents? She's an idiot, that doesn't have feelings, those people treated her as her own daughter.
Maybe he didn't take his son to a "dumpster" because no parent wants to believe their child is capable of this & I'm sure had you been in a similiar situation, you wouldn't have discarded your children either, you would have tried to help somehow, for instance like they tried with a boys camp in Somoa. Easy to judge other people.
The thing I find most UNBELIEVABLE is that there are people on this comment board that are actually in doubt of Christopher's guilt. WOW, great thing they were not jurors in this trial, phew
You sound pretty sure of your opinion. All reached how? By watching an episode on TV?? You can watch this 10 times and you will not have 20% of the facts here. I would be a little more objective knowing 15-20% maybe of what went on here. And this episode revealed so little and one sided. There is this thing called the LAW. Where you are supposed to be innocent until PROVEN GUILTY, BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT. Look it up, it's fascinating...
Christopher Sutton is a psychopath through and through. Even before he was sent to Samoa he planned to kill his parents. His girlfriend is creepy too. I can't imagine staying with or being in a relationship with any person who repeatedly says they are going to kill their parents. I can't imagine holding on to that information. She never made eye contact with the interviewer. Her eyes avoided contact continuously. She gave me the creeps. I hope Christopher Sutton rots in jail. He deserves never to get out. He hasn't one iota of a conscience.
Wow. YOU really need help, I agree that the girlfriend has issues for not warning somebody about what her boyfriend was ranting about, but maybe before you judge someone's guilt by their eye contact you should realize that they have a lazy eye. It is more than apparent, even when she did make eye contact, her eye muscles are weak and don't stay focused. Just had to comment on that because what was said was very offensive for those with that condition.
