This show was very troubling for me and my son. It is unbelievable to me that so much energy is used to hurt someone that never had a comfortable place to lay his head. Who belongs in jail? His mother!!!! It hurts me so much to see this. He only wanted shelter, food and water. The system completely let him down. If you were abused by an elder would you not be afraid if someone came after you? After watching this show my son said to me that he was very lucky to have me for a mother.
It's time to go after the real criminals....
If only the people with the power to change the laws would think the way they should be ... WE AS THE PARENTS OF OUR KIDS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM UNTIL THEY ARE ADULTS ... OUR SYSTEM ALLOWS PARENTS TO TREAT THESE KIDS AS ANIMAL SHELTER MATERIAL AND THE PARENT IS ALLOWED TO POP OUT HOWEVER MANY KIDS THEY CHOOSE TO HOW PATHETIC IS THAT ... OUR SYSTEM ENABLES PARENTS TO DRINK AND DO DRUGS AND DESTROY INNOCENT CHILDREN LIKE COLTEN WHO WAS A BEUTIFUL HAPPY BABY WHEN I HAD HIM I NEVER THOUGHT A PARENT COULD DO WHAT PAM HAS DONE TO COLTEN AND NOT ONCE HAS SHE PUT ANY BLAME ON HERSELF SHE HOWEVER IS COLLECTING EVERY DIME SHE CAN GET BUT STILL HAS NOT WENT TO VISIT COLTEN ...AND HE SENT HER MONEY TO PAY HER BILLS WHILE HE WAS ON THE RUN .. COLTEN I LOVE YOU AND YOU ARE WAY TO GOOD FOR PAM
i totally agree! how could our justice serve him in jail? REALLY? what justice is jail going to teach this child? how 2 b a repeat offender cause by the time he gets out he'll b institutionalized and not know any better? it's bs if society thinks prison will teach this kid anything let alone help him to re-associate with the public? MORONS! i hate our justice system! he NO criminal! he's a scared and misguided, confused child! i pray GOD brings down justice on those people to put such a judgement on such a sad situation.
This story is truly one that makes you think. now i understand this child did things that are in no way shape or form right but look at how the system failed him...he was left in a house with reported abuse and neglect...he was reported saying he wished his mother would stop drinking and have food in the house, But he was left there by authorities. so he ran and being a scared young boy made some horrible decisions. i feel that if his mother would have actually been a mother OR the proper authorities would have done their jobs this young mans life could have been entirely different. its a shame because of his mothers poor life decisions this child was forced to grow up way to quickly without the proper means necessary and will now sit in jail while his wonderful mother sits in her wonderful trailer and drinks her wonderful alcohol. Having a child is a true blessing and its so dissapointing when others dont see that...ill pray for you!
Just a couple of comments to FRAGILEHABITAT Colten is not my son he is my 18 yr old sons uncle and you are so right about his mother Pam not doing her job as a mother I personaly know first hand how bad the drinking was I as a single mom to 3 kids 18 yrs - 16 yrs and 12 yrs old could not imagine putting alchol before my kids she knew Coltens dad was a deadbeat but she didnt give a damn all she wanted was a baby my husband Coltens brother was 21 yrs old when his only sibling was born we had just buried our daughter who passed away from SIDS Pam was excired to have him but not enough to put the beer down HOW SELFISH can one be .... And just to let some peoplewho thinks Colten is the devil and should be killed for his crimes SHAME ON YOU child mollesters get off easier than this kid ...his stealing started when his mom would go weeks without putting food in this childs home so he could eat a meal she would starve him for a punishment BUT SHE WOULD NEVER GIVE UP THE BEER ... Colten has not denied doing any wrong in fact he is angry that his mom is selling his drawings and his story and SHE is making money off his crimes Colten does not want a movie nor does he want the fame ... His parents should be behind bars and I would be willing to let Colten live with me with his nephew BUT our system allows parents to destroy the children and the children will pay the price dearly ..... THAT IS THE AMERICAN WAY..... SAD
i strongly agree with u! i think this child parent,(who were supposed to be responsible), go to jail! they've HAD a chance at life! he's paying because they BLEW IT! poor child. yea, i 100% agree, THIS IS AMERICA'S WAY NOW! i am just astounded to hear what all this child n soon to b man has bn thru n going 2 go thru! where r the MORALS?
right, that wouldve been the wiser solution, to keep him with u guys and to avoid any cash in the direction of the alcoholic mom which needs only help and not to cash from her son.... definitely... but it goes so much so around the world that i came to think it is meant to be so, the system is this way and not by mistake. i have the feeling there is more cash to milk out of a bad situation which remains bad than from a situation which is solved...that u cannot milk anymore, if u understand what i mean.

So what poor baby Colt 45 had a little bit of hardship growing up.Believe me when I tell you it is not even close to real child abuse.Having an alcoholic parent didn't make me into thief.This young boy needs to become a man and stop blaming mommy for his crimes.Don't forget all the people's life's he has destroyed.Anyone who sees this human turd as a hero needs a one way ticket to the war we are fighting for a lesson in what it takes to be a real hero.Colt is a lucky punk who will most likely spend his time in jail or running like the coward he is.

I think this whole story is a really sad example of what happens when we as a society fail our children. We are all so afraid to say anything because we believe parents have so many rights they OWN their children. What about the childs right. We have to start relizing that how a child is raised WILL affect all of us somewhere down the line.It wasn't just Colten's family that failed him but also the police that showed up a his house after his 911 call, The social worker who looked into his case and every single teacher, boyscout leader, neighbor who knew what this child was going through and did nothing to help him. If he was taken out of that home maybe he would just be a normal teen instead of the criminal he has become.
(Having finally succeeded in seeing the broadcast) I really, truly hope they can find a way to lead this brilliant young man to a productive life. All things considered, he escaped abuse and violence and addiction in his family in a way that required much more intelligence than normal child-abuse victims can muster. Here's hoping that authorities will try to help him by matching him up with the Catch Me If You Can character, Frank Abagnale. He too, astonishingly, had his bandit days ended at age 19 (after making millions posing, for one thing, as a pilot). And he's been incredibly helpful to authorities since.
