I know exactly how this girl feels , I've been bullied everyday since september. I honestly can't take it anymore. All they do is sit there and bully me EVERYDAY . I've tried just about everything to stop them , but yet nothing has worked. I have even gotten to the point where I didn't want to live my life anymore. I really didn't see a point. :|

This whole episode of bullying at school, is to our entire humanity, as a whole, a terrible detriment, and I have much to say upon this point!!!! But for those that are supposed to be 'watching out' for this, I cannot believe that this School is absolved of all criminal activity, or that no one else has been cognizant of these facts! I always thought that "reporters" were to report! No matter the instance! Educators, Medical Professionals, et.al., in these combined States, are required by Law, to Report, by LAW, and my question is Why did no one Report? If it was a parent, who allowed such abuse, and they allowed this same thing, or allowed it to occur, would have been reported to their State DCF, and have had to suffer the consequences. They would be reported and would have to answer to their State Entity, as to why this allowed such Abuse could Continue. to the State DCF. Why did these educators have no such requirements? This Child was undergoing Child Abuse, for She was a Child, and did have Abuse heaped upon her, it should not matter where it came from. That was Child Abuse, which should have been reported, How can this school district say that they 'have nothing to do with this'? If you all can be with me, in telling this school district that this was your own fault, it would be appreciated. If Emough of US, get MAD ENOUGH, perhaps the status quo can change.
Many Sad Thoughts for the parents of this kid...

A very tragic story which could have been prevented, if the school had acted responsibly. Schools are supposed to have a "NO TOLERANCE POLICY" regarding bullying. Yet, the school was aware of it and did nothing. School is supposed to be a SAFE place for our children - that's what we pay for. The school was negligible by doing NOTHING! So much legislation over "hate crimes" - it is OUR CHILDREN that should be PROTECTED from any and all kinds of abuse. Bullying is abuse, and teachers are mandated by law to REPORT it.

i think its important to note the arrests aren't for bullying, the arrests are for criminal acts which, it is alleged, the suicide victim endured prior to taking her own life. i believe the school officials who were aware of the behavior should most certainly be arrested, they are required by law to report criminal behavior, this isn't about needing new laws or 'criminalizing' bullying, this is about an atmosphere of fear and danger being promoted by school personnel who chose to ignore their legal, human, and professional responsibilities to report it and to help bring an end to the abuse. one question which hasn't been answered in the news reports yet is this, was the suicide victim recently placed on medication? read up on the anti anxiety and anti depressants, perhaps she was also a victim of a medical community which prescribed to cover up her fear instead of also reporting the criminal assaults to the police, as they are required to, by placing her on one of the drugs which, it is being reported, appear to have 'increased danger of suicide' as one of the 'possible' side effects. my heart goes out to her family, this is such a sad story, your daughter deserved to be treated well and to be welcomed to our country with love, i'm sorry for your loss.

It's not "becoming a real problem." Bullying has always HAS been a real problem. I was bullied my entire childhood, especially during my middle school years. It always happened during P.E. when it was easier to look like an "accident." I had constantly had broken bones, & there were times my clothes would end up in a toilet full of urine in the changing rooms. There were many more horror stories. I talked to my coach, who blew me off. I talked to the principle, who blew me off. It finally took me moving to another country when my dad PCS'd before the bullying stopped. I haven't had a P.E. class since. It led to low self-esteem, & abuse (including rape) by others in my later years. I TOTALLY blame not just the school, but the parents of my bully. The only thing that finally stopped the cycle was my little girl (that was conceived because of the rape). I was determined to not let HER be a victim like I was. Now, I'm a survivor. Guess what? I CONFRONTED my bully, 10 YEARS LATER when I found him on Facebook....he apologized to me, & came to the realization how much he hurt me as a kid. And you know what? His life really isn't that much better than mine. It's sad that it wasn't until adult-hood that this bully is no longer a bully.

I agree with you. I'm a teacher and can't imagine why the administration didn't respond or why in your case the administration didn't respond. At our school if we see a kid being targeted at any level we respond swiftly and decisively. It's inconceivable to me that this went on for months and the administration just found out about it a week before her death. The problem with bullying is just dealing with the bullies is not enough. You must provide a safe haven for the victims and counseling.

I'm so sorry for what you went through. I never had to endure that myself. I can't imagine the fear you had to live with. Please know that the majority of society is not like that. I like the fact that you confronted your bully. Maybe if he has kids, he will be more responsive to their actions.

This made me so sad. I guess we can all look back and remember bullies and the ones who suffered. Though I was never a victim it always made me angry and I attempted to intervene on more than one occasion.
Now it is so much more vicious with the Internet. I totally agree with you, Lorraine the parents and school need to be held accountable. This beautiful, young girl's life cannot be lost in vain. These mean individuals must be punished and used as a warning for others.

Unfortunately this is becoming a very real problem in the schools through out the world. I honestly believe that the school administrators that were aware of this situation and did nothing to stop it should be charged right along with those kids. By no means do I believe those kids should get away with this. This kind of thing has been the cause of many a school shooting. The parents of the kids involved should also be held accountable for their childrens actions most especially when they are the ones that furnish the computer and internet connection to them. These kids obviously needed to be monitored continuously.
