For all those folks who do not want "Obamacare" please be sure to donate your Social Security checks as well as your medicare to the debt fund for the health care fund. It seems like a perfect opportunity to stand by your principles and not be a hypocrite. In fact, I sincerly wish the Government could do that for you proactively.

How about if we abandon not only our Social Security and Medicare entitlements but our obligation to support this government via tax obligations as well? Admittedly, principles are principles, and you have invited a true challenge to those who believe that a commitment, without hypocrisy and exceptionalism, is meaningful. For those who support Obamacare, be sure that your enthusiastic support will be met with an equal disengagement from the mechanisms of socialism. Let it be what it will be. Enjoy your victory,

Noting the recent posts, it seems we have a segment of the American population who believe it is acceptable to ?remake? (a term used by President Obama) our democratic republic into a socialist democracy (similar to countries in Europe). The United States Constitution was written to provide the basis for a democratic republic. What we are witnessing today is a struggle between those who cherish the Constitution as a document that guarantees its citizens personal freedoms and liberty by limiting the power and authority of the federal government, and those who wish to live under a system in which personal freedoms and responsibilities are exchanged for government provisions.

It has been the environment of personal freedom and responsibility, along with citizens embrace of personal independent spirit, which has made this nation the most successful the world has ever known. Europe is made of countries whose greatness is in the past. Today, Europe is known for beautiful architecture and art ? all works of the past. The breakthroughs in technology and medicine have mainly come from the US. Without our success in those areas, Europe would not be able to enjoy some of those assets. Socialism breeds mediocrity. A free competitive market and self responsibility lays the groundwork for excellence and discovery. We are in the process of making our choice.

Republicans are totally philosophically twisted. To wit: Republicans are opposing the mandate provision. Seems like Republicans are for people to carry their own weight, to pay their own freight, i.e. pay for their own health insurance. Yet they are arguing against forcing people to buy insurance and to let others pay for those who cannot afford to pay on their own. Do the Republicans make sense? H.ell No!

The insurance companies have lower profit margins than most businesses and are MUCH more efficient than the federal government. They are driven by increase sin charges form doctors, hospitals, etc. Much of that is driven by restrictions in Medicare, etc so they charge more for paying customers. Insurance companies are not "evil". It is probably a good idea many of the laws in this bill about not dropping coverage, etc, but what do you think will happen? rates will go up and everyone will be complaining again.

Private insurers have very high profit margins and low risk since they cover only the most healthy segment of the population. Their overhead is 28%-30%. Not sure if that includes their annual million $$ bonuses to execs whose job it is to find ways to make more profits from sick and dying people for their bonuses each year. Medicare overhead is around 2.5%. Their "executives" are government paid employees who job it is to administer the program and receive no bonuses. Privatizing social programs and services is a bad idea. Remember Enron? Blackwater?Halliburton? Privatizing the Iraaq war bilked us out of billions with $33 billion unaccounted just from Halliburton. When the government, that is, our Army,CeeBees, Corp or Engineers built barracks and airstrips, there was no profit built into this service. Military personnel were responsible to feed, house, provide medical services and security on our bases. Much less expensive, safe, and reliable than hired security with no allegiance to our soldiers. Government employees saved our country billions of dollars over privatization contracts awarded to companies with overseas bank accounts and tax shelters. The U.S. receives none or very little tax revenues from these corporations, which is another reason why we as a country are much better off to care for our own.

On what planet do you reside? Medical insurance companies rank 86th in profitability at about 3.4%. In the working world, that is pretty low profit margin. You can google that and see that you have the wrong information.

On the payment to Blackwater, I think that anyone, including the military that lays down their life for me should be adequately compensated. Blackwater people were doing jobs that the military did not want to do and it saved lives. Now talk about the Post Office, IRS, Medicare, Medicaid, Freddie, Fannie, DOE, NASA, Social Security, and finally the Obamacare overrun that will make history as the biggest overrun ever. They have proven time and again that the government cannot run any business efficiently. Think of their loses as money out of out pockets. Then think of the excessive pay to top executives. Make a dollar to dollar comparison. You will find the executive pay is far less.

My biggest problem with the bill is not the abortion issue anyway (I was just weighing in on my thoughts of the discussion already started). My problem is the 100% lack of integrity in this process. This has made me pay more attention to our governent that anything before. I did not like what I saw. The arrogance, self-serving, lack of integrity has really disminshed the view of our government. The lies told, the promises not kept, the "deals", etc. SOmething this big and which has the potential to greating improve our country or mre dangerously, greatly harm our country should be so obvious that deal making, lies, and process tricks should not occur. I truely feel that although Mrs. Pelosi may be great at what she does, she is a very scary person. And I have been alarmed in one short year how my "hope" for Mr. Obama has faded. I hate to say it, but more and more, I think Sean Hannity had this guy right

I think you strayed when you said Hannity has it right. He is clearly to the right but he has never had it right. this reform has been hindered from day one by Republican obstructionism. As a practicing MD, I see the effect of people losing insurance and not being able to pay the bills. I find it fascinating that the loudest complainers are those that have lifetime coverage(congress) or make a ton of money. the lack of integrity is clearly from the fringe right that has taken control of the republican party. They would vote "no" if a cure for cancer was found if it was by a democrat. While government is clearly flawed and we have all lost faith in it, the policy of running up the debt to finance war and give tax cuts to the wealthy(me) as the PREVIOUS REPUBLICANS did is now causing the problems today. Imagine if Wall Street didn't collapse and we weren't drained by a war, what we could have accomplished?

And I assume you believe that they really will allow Medicare to be cut? Then how will the cost structure look?

And then as in happened in California, when they added more people to CalCare or whatever it was, and doctors started losing money on those patients and jacked up fees for paying customers - all heck broke loose and it was the "evil" insurance company. When it reallity is was the short-sighted government
