From Space Based Infrared Systems (SBIRS) to the current SBI program challenges, USAF Col(Ret) Mark Borkowski is the kind of bold leader the Government needs to keep contractors on their toes, trying to correct past missteps and seeking success for the nation. I admire his tenacity, honesty and down to business approach on this controversial and challenging project.
As a software developer/programmer it's no surprise to me that no one talked to the users, it's rare for anyone to talk to the users. For some reason the "project leaders" [almost] always falsely believe they really know what their employees are doing. In school it's taught that the system design is founded on user interviews; it's called a task analysis. Users almost always see The Tool Set last. I railed against this at several well-known businesses and government contracts like NASA.
Speaking as a soldier, the enemy always goes where the sentries aren?t and the defense is weakest; and fences always grow tunnels. During the ?Indian Wars? General George Crook figured out that it takes, ?An Apache to catch an Apache.?

. Homeland Security should get there heads out of their Hip Pockets and start working with CECOM (Communications Electronics command) of the US ARMY NSIGNAL CORPS. We in the Army family (I am retired US ARMY)are very proud of our development of the Vacuum tube, Avionics, Radars, Microwave radio, Multiplexers, Satellite Communications (I was in on the R&D of SATCOM at SATCOM STA #1 FT DIX NJ.). The army has the Electronic Proving Ground at Ft. Huachuca AZ. Now that said - we already have This equipment developed - and as said in this news segment, all Boeing and HS are doing is fiddling WITH THINGS THEY KNOW NOLTHING ABOUT. You DO NOT GET A ROCKET ENGINEER TO ENGINEER A COMMNICATIONS SYSTEM. You get a COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER such as I and other Signal Corps types like General Emmett Paige, JR. to do this Program Management and Development, The Army is loaded with them. But you damn civilians are ate up with anti-military feelings so bad its damn pitiful. You can thank us for your Satellite TV and your Fiber Optic systems for we are the ones who invented them, and did not get the credit for it. James W. Holland US ARMY RETIRED

of course they dont want to pay taxes...if we could we wouldnt either..the thing that bugs me the most is that some come with the good intention of gettin a better life...but then they get our ss numbers and the fake ids and they have babies...that we end up having to support, idk i think that the best thing to do would be to just deport them all....and have a real fence like they do in prison... we shouldnt have to support them...geeze we could barely support ourselves
As an industrial contractor for 20 years I can tell you with certainty if there were no jobs waiting for illegals here they would not come, period. It is against the law to hire illegals. If I and the thousands of large, and small business faced substancial fines, and, or imprisonment we would immediately stop hirering, and, or terminate their employment. Many of us do give payroll checks with full deductions, all of witch goes to SS, IRS,etc. And we do so with complete impunity. The public who also hire known illegals, and pay them cash are no braver than business people. Face them with crimonal charges and they will also stop. A legal work program is needed, and partially underway.
First of all I must say that I am very disapointed that 60 Minutes did not see fit to post my first comment to this story for what ever reason they may have had.
The story was disturbing since 1. It is our TAX dollars at work, or should be. 2. There's still a lot of border to go even if they finally get this 28 miles working. 3. Meanwhile terrorists can come in and stay in the US to do their dirty work. AND 4. Meanwhile the revolving door is still open to allow illegal aliens to come in, be deported and come back in again, to deal their drugs, form their gangs and break the law. Delta, Utah just laid to rest a dedicaed policewoman, gunned down without a chance by a returned illegal. When does the revolving door STOP?
There are so MANY, MANY companies making BILLIONS upon BILLIONS off the idea of our "WAR ON TERROR" that one certainly has to wonder if its not all just PROPAGANDA to keep corporate America making BILLIONS upon BILLIONS from our "war on terror"......It's been HOW MANY years since we lost 2500 people??!!!! How much do we NOW SPEND on WARS around the world, drone fighters, guns, equipment, soldiers, private company security and warriors, bombs, propaganda, etc, etc, etc......
The US spends an astronomical amount of money on fighting wars around the world. Why in God's name don't we have our troops here in the US at our OWN BORDER protecing us at home?! The money given to Boeing needs to be repaid, since obviously they have not come thru with what they promised to deliver. I, as a contractor, would lose my license and be sued if I tried getting away with what they did. COME ON PEOPLE!!! get with it! Put our troops at the "front line" of defense...the US Border!
Before anyone can create a solution we have to identify the problem. As I see it the problem comes in layers. First as others have voiced we have the issue of large layers or groups of people either one by one or in groups that are coming into the country to work,or escape worse conditions than getting caught and sent back, legal or illegal they come in droves to support themselves and family and friends back in Mexico. Most are not violent and seek to blend into our society. I don't agree with the methods and I certainly don't think we should tolerate or allow them rights as Americans just because they are now here, we need accountability. If the current system isn't working create one that does, maybe easier said than done, but I don't see anyone so far that has produced a solution. That is why in a democratic based society we elect individuals to handle the needs and issue that plague us as a country. Start by making sure you vote! and then vote for candidates that have platforms that are trying to address these issues. Who do you think has the best and most information as to the current problems and shortfalls, the local and state government officials or our Federal government officials? Making them be responsible at a local level and then at the state level helps insure that those elected officials do what they promised or need to do. Then move it to a Federal level, not the other way around. Everyone has an opinion, but the facts are the facts and that is where we need to drill into, not opinions. Secondly, what 60 minutes has touched on in other segments but didn't get into during this one, (because they were looking at a failed system, a expensive failed system instead)is the fact that CBP, DHS, and every single local and state law enforcement agency along our southern border is at "war" with 7 major drug cartels. The La Familia, Gulf Cartel, Los Zetas, Beltran-Leyva organization, Sinaloa Cartel(pegged in 2009 as one of the strongest), Vicente Carrillo Fuentes organization/Jaures Cartel, and the Arellano Felix organization/Tijuana Cartel. Cash rich and violent past any laws these along with many others are attacking our borders like never before. Statics? show more people have been killed on the US/Mexican border than in war zones in the middle east? Why don?t I hear about this on the nightly news? As to the question or comments that Asians are coming into the US via Mexico I might beg to differ. These cartels are armed with Asian guns and armor piercing ammo that is coming from major Asian markets? You don't think that in return these cartels aren't helping bring Asians into the US? Good law-abiding candidates for citizenship didn't you think? Our law enforcement is strapped with ?terms of engagements? that the cartels are very aware of and use to their advantage all the time. They are stronger in arms than our law enforcement is in some cases; our law enforcement ranks have ?cash bounties? on their heads from the cartels.
If you should choose to read into the progress the cartels are making in the US today you'll see that the drug networks are everywhere and they open new markets of distribution all the time. Herding sheep vs. herding wolves takes different strategies. So one solution for layers of problems isn't going to work, just like one fence, physical or virtual is going to work. Layers of protection designed to stop specific layers of our border penetrations could/would mesh together at some point, some day. Someone wiser than me told me never to put all your eggs in one basket? I work in the security industry and I see solutions that will work, but in so many cases small business solutions never make it against large business solutions. Who do think will be the awardees? of a 1B dollar deal? Even if 60 Minutes doesn?t have all the answers, at least they are asking questions.
Stop hiring illegals for anything, stop doing drugs. Problem solved. Make the American People ACCOUNTABLE for their own greed and addictions.
No more "Safe Haven" for illegals (ie. San Francisco Bay area)...un-believable!!
No lawyers needed. Have a nice day.
