Obama made a very telling statement when he said, "There are elements in Afghanistan who be prefectly happy letting Afghanistan become a protectorate of the US." Exactly the reason why we shouldn't be sending more troops. Afgh. is not a country, it's a collection of tribes. Al Queda, one hundred guys, this is the reason we are there??? OMG, what a joke.

Steve Kroft's interview with President Obama was good. However, I wished Steve would have followed up with President Obama's positive comment about the "surge" working in Iraq.

President Obama's plate is full now, but can you imagine how over full his plate would be if the Iraq surge never happened. I understand why President Obama would not give President Bush the credit for this accomplishment. So I will, thank you President Bush. Now Steve Kroft can ask more questions about the party crashers. Let's go Steve!

We did not seek or want this war...But we were attacked in most heinous fashion(Spain, Britain, Pakistan, Indonesia also) and had no choice but to respond along with the NATO and other nations who are subjected to the terrorism sprung out of Afghanistan. However we also wasted our resources, shed blood needlesly for 7 years due to Iraq and mismanagement of entire effort in Afghanistan. I am absolutely convinced that Obama has the right vision and strategy to resolve the problem in reasonable time. He deserve our support.

Steve,

Why did you not press the President harder on the question of why we are staying? How are we going to pay for it? Why is this the most pressing national priority?

Allow me to answer for Steve in this open forum;
President already explained the reasons we are staying; I suggest you to listen carefully to his words...As to how are we paying for; the same way we are paying for the other war Bush started for the wrong reasons...It is the most pressing national priority because of the fact that these people (Al-Qaida and their supporters Taliban)attacked this country and other nations (Britain, Spain, Pakistan, Indonesia...)They are our mortal enemies and must be defeated or minimum neutralized by yhe efforts of our, NATO and other nations, military, in addition to various diplomatic and civillian efforts. Problem is simple enough to understand but complicated to resolve. Obama is doing the right thing even he had very few alternatives available to him after 7 years of mismanaged war without any end in sight, as he inherited.

Rationalizing for war eloquently is just as heinous (or moreso) than rationalizing for war ineloquently. We will leave with a net gain in enmity and hatred than when we went in, whether it's July of 2011 or 2211. Anti-Americanism is an idea not geography. Ask the Yemenis, the Somalis, the Shias, the Sunnis, the Iranians, the N. Koreans, the yadda yaddas et al. The MI oligarchic plutocrats were obviously not ready to end their quest for sustainability. Northrop-Grumman likes the profits from drones and missile production, as much as the CIA in killing civilians to assure sustainability. Obama's a puppet!

People seem to have forgotten what a terrorist is. They are nothing more than thugs with a religious twist. We will never be able to rationalize peace with them, you definetly cannot give them what they want.(They want us dead) Going to war in Afghanistan was not a choice it was a reflex. At least were meeting them on a battlefield. We did have other options to deal with the threat and the US has shown great restraint in light of the innocent people who lost thier lives on sept 11. These people will stop at nothing to kill innocent americans.Have you ever heard of any demands be met for peace from them? no.War is not a good thing ever but this is a fight that has to be fought now. If we walk away every man woman and child who has lost thier life in this fight over the past eight years would have died in vain. To think some of our citizens would have flown over to afghanistan right away and surrenderd to them all in the name of peace is beyond normal human reason.Bush was given no other option to protect our country so to say Obama inherited his problems your ALL right. Little secret psst.. it comes with the job.As with any president one term or two is never enough to right all the things that humpteen million special intrest groups say is wrong.Any man who takes the job of president of the united states and all the responsability that comes with it, (wether i voted for him or not)Has my respect. And who cares how much this war is going to cost the bankers and wall street traders? I live middle income with a small business but I would drop it in a heart beat and pick up a rifle if it meant protecting my family and friends from cowards with no morals or regards for human life.Al Queda and the Taliban are spreading like wildfires in the middle east and its not because they are a bunch of likable guys.They move in like gangs and intimidate,maim and kill thier own people into submission. Women and children have no rights and are treated like servants or worse yet slaves. It is our responsability as able liberators to help them as well as defend our country and honor our families by showing up for this fight be it we win or lose. As for our men dying ,, its not in vain its thier duty as a soldier to fight for thier country and 96% percent of them will tell you that.And so will thier families proudly stand behind them knowing fully well what it means to be a soldier.The world trade center and the planes involved were not soldiers.These men and women in our armed forces are in the battle for them.So all you people who say this war cost too much obviously didnt have family or friends needlessly lose thier lives that day.
