What a great poem! I like to write rhyming poems a lot and yours was the tops!!! I?d like to respond in like kind. Here goes?..
About making things more clear As debates do draw near There?s something to ask Something I want to hear.
With such talent galore At the CBS newsroom store With this humble poem I do you now implore!
A translation we need All workers take heed!!! From the ?Cadillac Tax? We do need to be freed.
It?s the ?Cadillac Tax? That will put to the axe Our PPO plans Who will then ?Cover our backs??
If we worker's do lose Our right to chose The doctors we need The doctors we chose Then many of us will be Singing much more than the blues.
HMOs will be left For employers to offer For this new excise tax Leaves a big Empty coffer.
How can this be? You might be tempted to say, Well a 40% tax Makes premiums too high to pay.
Not just for workers For businesses too They will have to pass All the expenses to you.
It's become quite essential To clear out of the way This "Cadillac" term What does it convey???
This question concerns me It's a sad thing to say. There is quit a lot Senate Dems Take away.
PPOs are the plans Of which they do speak. They've called them excessive This makes my heart weak!
PPOs aren't excessive They give us a choice, Of doctor's to care for us And then gives them a voice.
For correct diagnostics And treatment we need It helps keep decisions Away from "managed greed".
Myself I did need this A brain tumor I had. For my PPO Plan I was grateful and glad.
It was determined That to save my live, I did need a good surgeon To go under the "knife".
So I made the decision Just who this would be My PPO protected This freedom for me.
My choice was the best one And as you can see I am still here Of the tumor I'm free.
Am I someone wealthy as the "Cadillac" word makes you think? I was an inner city teacher My budget on the brink.
Workers' rights are what's threatened Not some wealthy CEO's
This term's meant to confuse us So we really can't know.
It's our plans we have worked for Middle incomes and low, Our rights they are precious We don't want them to go.
These rights aren't exorbitant These words do confuse Don't let the term "Cadillac" Demonize what we use.
So Katie I ask you to please Make this clear As debates for the health care Come to your ear.
You are a reporter A very good sleuth To decipher the language And tell us the truth.
Is it what we were promised To tax workers for this? As I recall "Dems" speeches There was nothing of this.
Our President promises To leave our care alone, But there are key facts That should be more known.
The tax Reid's proposing Will raise greatly the cost, And for most all workers PPO plans would be lost.
Except....
For the Senate's Who'll save theirs at all cost.
Thanks for reading this. Ruth
P.S. So called "low cost plans equal HMO plans that limit choice of doctors, diagnostics and treatments "Cadillac Plans" equal PPO plans the serve to provide and preserve complete freedom to choose your own doctors. They are intended to minimize insurance interference for diagnostics and treatment. This is unnecessary or excessive? The 40% tax excise tax would tax these group plans to extinction as this would only accelerate and exacerbate rising premium costs, making them unaffordable for businesses, especially small one and their employees. HMO plans would become the default chchoice. Middle and low income workers would be taxed heavily for the health care reform and end up losing their good coverage. This is reform??? This is a far cry from what we were promised repeatedly during the Presidential campaigns.
