She will be an excellent addition to the Supreme Court. A racist comment? Perhaps--maybe she could have just left out the "Latino" in her statement and just said 'wise woman'. I agree with Ms. Sotomayar that we need a woman in office. Let's say we need **more women in office or a majority of women in office* to clean things up as it is obvious that the men haven't been doing a very good job. Note: I am not a feminist; I am just being "real".

People like Newt Grinch would oppose Jesus because he wants class warfare by his comment about the camel/eye of a needle/get into heaven statement. I am white and a male and in a case invlving a minority of any kind it would be hard for me to make any judgement because I have not lived that life style. All I could do is what I hope she will do and that is to follow the Constitution in all cases.

"Liberal double standards continue. What a disgusting bunch of hipocrytes."

Hypocrites, you guys should talk.

Newt the flute, a guy who while screaming and ranting and raving about Clinton getting a BJ in the Oval Office, and expounding virtues, was banging one of his own subordinates and tells his wife as she lays in the hospital he wants a divorce. PLEASE

I consider myself a moderate republican and this was certainly a racist comment. However we need some balance on the supreme court. They can't be the old all white male "brethren" they once were and her views from the perspective of a Latina female should be a valuable addition.

I am sure Judge Sotomayor is a good person and her accomplishments are worthy and especially inspirational to young people. Although I might not always agree with her idealogically, I certainly support her right to her views. I am concerned with the statement she made saying a wise Latina woman . . .would . . . make a better decision than a white male ... This obvious bias in her mind is troubling. Although I respect her we are all held accountable for our words & deeds. What is even more troubling in our society is the meanness with which people that disagree are attacked. Come on guys, Republicans & Democrats, lets actually respect "Freedom of Speech" and be Americans. Disagree, but treat each other with respect.

Of course, rightwingers try to find anything they can throw.
The problem is, they really want to throw stuff, they don't really want to scrutinize the woman.
But as far as I can see, most actual senators are fairly sensible.
I would not be surprised if she got through on the first attempt. There are still too many sensible republicans who don't see the sense in filibustering someone who clearly isn't activist.

Sotomayor was the obvious choice. Therefore the mud-throwers certainlyhad a lot of time to collect ammunition. If this petty thing is all they coud gather - she is definitely the right candidate!
