- Aceduece and Innocubus are two more malicious cynics that thrive on any article about the Catholic Church, but they are in a losing situation. The popes since 1878 have been outstanding in many ways. Leo XIII defended the rights of workers, Pius X promoted communion for children, Benedict XV was a voice for peace and refugees in WW I, Pius XI spoke against Nazis and Fascists in the '30s, Pius XII had a wide-spread underground for Jews to excape Nazi terror that saved some 860,000 Jews according to Israel Pincus Lapide, John XXIII defended justice and promoted an updating of the Church, John Paul II helped overthrow Communism according to Gorbachev, etc.
