The luxurious and opulent fabric and wardrobes deemed fit for a pope and clergy glimpsed in this video seem like such a waste, and an affront to the senses amidst all the suffering and strife in the world. Why and when did it become tradition where it was required that the head of a religious institution dress in such magnificence? I wonder what Jesus Christ would think of all of this. Something tells me that he would not be impressed by all the outwardly grandeur, but instead would be moved by one's works for the good of mankind. Everything else pales in comparison.

It would be novel and refreshing to see a new Pope that pays the same amount of attention that is given to vestments on the child abuse scandal, financial irregularities, women's role in the Catholic Church, increased transparency to the faithful, etc. (and there are a lot more et ceteras). I fear we will see more of the same.
