In my humble opinion we need to remove any potential financial reward from anyone running for any public office. Term limits - YES. Unlawful to work for the corporate benefactors you supported while in office - YES. The same benefits for Senate and Congress as for the rest of us - YES!!! Clean up the Campaign funding mess - YES.
The "revolution" needs to be: DO NOT vote for any incumbent. And vote for only those new candidates who receive the LEAST amount of funding. We need to get rid of the current government that is "Of the Corporations, By the Corporations, and For the Corporations.". Sad that the few "good" representatives will be sacrificed, but change is needed.
The primary problem is that the Congress and the President don't really have any skin in the game, or as we say it in the south "don't have a dog in this hunt". Their pay, benefits, vacations, health plan, etc., stay the same whether they do their jobs or not. If they cannot come to some agreement then they should lose their pay and health care until they prove they can perform. The Tea Party folks, and the larger Republican party want the unemployed to lose the money on which they eat, while they argue over being unwilling to tax the super rich. I strongly believe in two term limits for congress, both houses, and 1/2 pay after leaving office, not full like it is now. Why should one election set them up for life/
I would like to know how much savings there would be if we cut Congress' and the presIdents Py. I believe this is the first place the cuts should start. WE THE PEOPLE are their employeers. Congress should never be allowed to vote themselves any pay raise.
What a terrific piece by Frank Luntz!!! Thank you CBS. Hope it gets passed around Washington for ALL to see. We really enjoy CBS Morning & the hard news & stories it brings rather than the "fluff" of other networks. Keep it coming~~~we watch it & Scott Pelley daily. Bob & Gretchen Tjossem
