Mr. Duncan talks about pink slips now (March)...for September..That is a Union requirement - nothing more. He says they saves 68 million for student loan programs - but then went and spent it on Pell Grants - Re-directed is a better word....If I could ask one Question....When would be a good time to cut spending??????
Compromise? That is how we got the Sequestration in the first place. Obama wanted more taxes and he suggested Sequestration as a compromise. He got his tax hikes. Now it is time to deliver on the spending cuts. One way or the other.
It does. Only government employees, union workers, state workers and those evil wealthy (5 million cash or more in the bank) can weather the taxing, taking, bullying, and hubris coming from our overlords. The only compromise that will work, is one that gets our unemployed back to work. You cannot expect groups or individuals to create work, with a constant threat of more bureaucratic solutions always in play. To make a profit, is criminal these days. The constant barrage of take and spend reduces our potential, creates dependency, and increase government payrolls. Spending cuts will never happen. Ever. Ours is a dead democracy. Welcome to the Public Educator's world of tommorrow!!
Furlough is the word of the day. Of course the President prefers not to furlough air traffic controllers because it would interfere with his private golf lessons in Florida.
The President would continue to borrow Chinese funds so that the air traffic controllers can be paid.
The President hasn't the guts to raise taxes on American tax payers to pay the salaries of the air traffic controllers.
He hasn't the guts to cut the spending either. He can't even come up with a viable US Budget proposal for Congress to work with. He has no clue what he is doing.
Pay Social Security, Disability, Medicare, and Medicaid, it is earned income that is the property of those who have earned it.
Don't just talk, make obvious cuts.
Pay principle and interest to Japan, Britain, China, and about 30 other nations who have purchased our $16 Trillion worth of our Treasury. It is our debt and needs to be paid.
Pay other bills as there is money to pay. Divvy out the remainder as can be done without borrowing more money from China and others. Choose how to do it, whether it is deferred pensions, wages, healthcare, military or whatever.
Make America competitive so that every company will want to relocate here, rather than the other way around as it is now.
When there is a surplus, resume support of the United Nations, foreign aid materials and money, etc.
The Education Secretary sounded like a blabbering fool.
Nobody is against early education spending.
Forget the sequester, the sequester is only a part of what needs to be done to curb over-spending. The issue is how to pay for for what we want with the revenue we have to work with.
There is a very simple solution to balance the President's budget. For discussion let's say we currently have a 50% shortfall (it is reported we are taxing ourselves $0.46 and borrowing $0.54 of every dollar we spend.). Let's cut material, salaries, pensions, healthcare to the point it balances out. It only needs to be temporary.
When the eleven million disenfranchised workers plus three million of the 13 million unemployed workers plus 2.2 million new college graduates each year plus 2 million new 19 year olds each year, plus the million illegals invited by executive order to apply for work all get their jobs, then the economy can roll as it did until 2006.
We cannot sustain Trillion after Trillion being added to the National debt, we are already seeing this is a drag on recovery.
Mr. Duncan, I don't think you get IT. It is about "Learning how to solve problems with limited resources." Something I taught in my public school classroom: learning to solve their own problem using the resources they have in their hands. IT is about building solutions using the other 6 resources when money is limited. Those are time, information, energy, materials, people and machines. My lessons, videos, editorials and solutions from my 25 years as a public school mathematics, computer science, and career and technology education teacher can be found at www.build-a-brain.com and my Web 1.0 site http://teachertech.rice.edu/Participants/knorth/.
IT is about giving power to those in the classroom who are tired of "dumb mandates" by those who don't live with the problem everyday in the classroom. Those in the classroom who have solutions, the "rocket" that can propel education forward. It really is not "rocket science," let the teachers who take the TIME to share solutions that have worked for them take control.
