- Pamela makes great points about in regard to what Baby Booomers should do to find a new job/career, but she missed one improtant point... Baby Boomers tend to have out-dated skill sets unless they have continuously worked on building their skills throughout their career. My experience is that most Baby Boomers DON'T do this. When I lost my job, I asked myself "what do I enjoy doing" and are my skills up to the task? I realized my skills were deficient, so I got funding from the "Workforce Investment Act" and got my "Six Sigma Green Belt Certification" and "Lean Enterprise Certification". After one and one half years out of work, I expect to get at least one job offer in the field of "Continuous improvement" in the next two weeks... Baby Boomers: take a long hard look at yourself and your skills. Realize you are competing with younger people who have "fresher" skills and more upside than you. Find a way to "Positivelt Differentiate" yourself from younger, skilled workers!
