Most of us aren't too worried about the 'common sense' reforms. What many of us are concerned is first that they won't work and second, it won't stop there. Any toehold will be used to widen the crack in the future. I also disagree with Obama that the bullet from a gun killed the children and the other girl. It was the MAN behind the gun with the bullets that killed them and her. Isn't it obvious that there is something horribly wrong with a society that breeds such violence.
"Overwhelming majorities of Americans, Americans who believe in the 2nd Amendment, have come together around common sense reforms............."
Yes, a majority of Americans believe in and, to varying degrees, support the 2nd Amendment.
Yes, a majority of Americans do support COMMON SENSE reforms in the gun violence debate.
These two "majorities" are NOT necessarily the SAME "majorities"; ALL of the "do nothing" crowd believes in the 2nd Amendment.
All of the firearms owners who vehemently feel that the Feinstein bans do NOT qualify as "common sense" reforms, but support better mental health reporting, elimination of gun-free school zones, addition of concealed-carry staff at schools, etc. certainly believe in the 2nd Amendment.
The only way to reduce gun violence in this country bigtime is to lock anyone that is convicted of using ANY deadly weapon (not just guns) away in prison for life, no pardon or parol.
Doing away with the criminals, drug dealers and gang bangers that are the scum of our society will fix most of the crime in this country.
Or like in Texas just a good tall tree and a short piece of rope!
The funny thing is, the same liberal folks who push for more criminal laws to control guns, always seem to come down on the defendant's side when the cases come to court. They oppose the death penalty. They oppose 3 strikes laws. I am sure that they'd oppose life sentences for gun violations-- unless an NRA member was caught, then they might reconsider the death penalty.
Of course, NRA folks are never the perpetrators of crime. Most of the gun crime is in inner cities, and no liberals propose actually doing anything to get at the root cause of so much of this violence: the breakdown of the family.

Don't lump everyone in together - they're not.

Damn, it feels better already. I can feel the gun violence dropping to zero. Eureka! Problem solved.
Did that fix it?
