Bob Schieffer's comparison of Obama's gun control agenda to the war aginst the Nazis or the hunt for Bin Laden is utterly disgraceful. As the grandson of a woman who hid Jews in her closet in Hungary to keep them from being sent to the concentration camps, as the grandson of a newspaper editor who wrote editorials against both the Hungarian Fascists and the Soviets, as the son of a man who threw hand grenades at Soviet tanks in 1956 Hungary, I am deeply offended that a prominent American journalist should have the temerity and the despicably poor taste to compare two of the most horrific monsters humanity has ever known to American citizens who simply wish to exercise a basic Constitutional Freedom without fear of molestation and persecution by the Government.
It is time for the LIberal Left to understand one simple fact: a Constitutional Right is a Constitutional Right. Efforts to limit gun ownership are no less sinister than attacks on any other Constitutional Freedom. There is no moral difference between gun control and censorship of the Press or suspension of the Right to Due Process or restrictions on Freedom of Religion. An attack on any one Constitutional Freedom is an attack on all our Freedoms.
The ends never justify the means. Never. The US Government and the Governments of the States never have the authority to violate the Constitution. The authority of those Governments stems from and is defined by that Constitution. If it becomes any less than the absolute definer and limiter of Government, the Government loses its legitimacy, its very right to exist.
That must not happen. Our Rights and the authority - the severely limited but vitally important authority - of the US Government must both be preserved by preserving our Constitution.
Bob Schieffer has lost all moral authority to stand on the Freedom of the Press by comparing another Constitutional Freedom to the Holocaust.
Bob Schieffer could not be more wrong in his glowing endorsement of Presidents Obama's gun control speech. The president is obviously not serious about curbing gun violence. He is only interested in his political agenda. If he were serious, the centerpiece of his speech would not have been about banning assault style weapons. Those type of guns account for less than 1/2 of 1% of all gun deaths in the U.S. So if all assault weapons were banned and all current assault weapons confiscated, at best, assuming the person would not just use another type of gun(ridiculous assumption), you would prevent .05% of gun deaths per year! This is the centerpiece of his plan??? It is a shame because meaningful steps could be taken if he were truly serious about reducing gun violence instead of being so blatantly political and turning this real opportunity into a joke!
I was enlightened by your comments or President Obama's speech on the gun controversy in the United States. I fully expect you to show up at the inauguration in your Volt with a Obama 2012 bumper sticker and wearing a cheerleader outfit.

Shame on him.
