Obama could easily be one of those giants. But, McConnell, Boehner and Cantor only desire to crawl in the dung.
Schieffer hit the nail on the head when he spoke about respect towards others, even if they have different political views. Very few in this generation have been taught respect and care towards their fellow man, and society is paying for that now with a Washington that get anything done.
Schieffer is exactly right - something I've thought about often as I've witnessed the debacle in Washington the past few years. We used to have strong-willed and strong-principled people from opposing parties, from opposing ideologies, be they presidents, senators, or representatives. And yet these gentlemen - and that's what they were, gentlemen, who exhibited decorum and civility no matter the issue - these gentlemen got along personally, advocated for their respective positions, and in the end worked through the issues to find common ground on behalf of the American peopel, the people they worked for.
Today, Washington, particularly Congress, is a disgusting cesspool of selfish, selfserving, my-way-or-the-highway extremist idealogues who would rather "lose" it all themselves, and burn the American people in the process, than to give up a centimeter to their "enemy."
