Well, giving these sick, angry individuals all this media attention does not help any (to prevent future occurrences). A disturbed man, or woman, who is capable of doing something like this, after seeing all this "fame" (fame and notoriety in their eyes) that comes after these killings, in their twisted, angry, depressed minds, they feel it will make them known. They will be "somebody", they will be noticed, they will not be the "nobody" that they feel they are if they do something like this.

The only effective response to bad people with guns is good people with guns. Why do you think every one of these shootings happened in a gun-free area? Because they know no one will shoot back. The average shooter stopped by police shoots 14 people before being stopped. The average shooter stopped by an armed civilian only has time to shoot 2 people before being stopped. Every teacher in that building should have been armed and trained, as other countries have done with much more success than anything America has attempted.

You are a gun nut. This has been discredited time and again--your paranoia is the reason 20 children are dead. Discredited, discredited, discredited...and still you bastards and the NRA roll merrily along.

Everything in the States is way to free and easily accessible. On the other hand, visa restrictions are in place to prevent even innocent vacationers from entering the country. Wake up people! America is not heaven. Americans need to put their trust in God, as the legal tender states, and put more emphasis on adjusting its culture and the way young persons are socialized.Issuing more gun licenses will mean having more authority to pull a trigger; this does not even attempt to solve a problem. What matters most is the methods and strategies used to discipline the young. You can only bend a tree while it is young. My deepest sympathy go out to the families.

This was a tragedy carried out by young man with a serious mental illness. That's the ONLY fact that will ever make any sense in all of this regardless of what their investigation turns up. Aside from that - Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged. How can you speak about speck in our eyes when you have a log in your own eye? I haven't noticed any country which appears to be the perfect oasis so don't bash the USA! My country may not be perfect but it's still MY COUNTRY and I'm Proud to be an American. Flawed system and all... What we need is a more effective way to help people with mental issues to prevent this because necessity is the mother of invention - guns or no guns... If he was determined to cause chaos - he would cause chaos one way or another. Suicide bombers carry out their missions without the use of a gun... Uni-Bomber used a 55 gallon drum of manure! Shall we make cow manure illegal, too...?? America isn't heaven - but you can see it from here!

Perhaps one thing the media could do is refuse to give the gunman's name in these reports. That way, they would not get the "fame" they were seeking (even after killing themselves).

This was a very interesting special about the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. If you watched the broadcast on tv like I did...you had to watch the ads as well. I found myself disturbed however at the number of ads placed in this show for the rebuilding of New Jersey after hurricane Sandy as well as the Red Cross New Jersey ads. The Red Cross is fabulous and does amazing work...are they involved here with the Newtown shooting? If so...they didn't mention it. There were some general Red Cross ads which is understandable especially if they are helping the Newtown community through this tragedy. I felt the specific ads for New Jersey's need to rebuild after Hurricane Sandy however, were untimely and disrespectful at least. New Jersey's disaster and the need for help is important and ongoing and will be for some time. Newton however is in an acute situation and I felt the ads were a distraction and in some way a "don't forget us" attempt in the middle of this current and urgent crisis. This is just how myself as a viewer of this broadcast felt. The crisis at hand should have been the focus, and the ads, and the Red Cross ads should have been specific to this event...not another event they are trying to raise money for. Both events with similarly named headliners as well (i.e. hurricane sandy, and sandy hook elementary). If I wasn't paying attention I might have misunderstood the ads...and possibly donated to Hurricane Sandy...thinking I was donating to the Sandy Hook case. Not that either of them deserve the money any less than the other. They are both hugely important. It's just my opinion but someone should have thought about how that might look to viewers and victims in the Newtown situation. I was personally disappointed in that aspect CBS. Thanks.
