- Saw this segment--I am from a family of 9--we grew up in a 3 room house, coal heat, no running water and my dad drew a veteran check of $55/month..that is all we had to live on....that is just a few cents over $1/day--we did not get any government help, only some help from my church....there are people in the US who don't have it so good either...you don't have to go around the world...
