Beware of foreign entanglements. What is it about that statement that these idiots don't understand? This idea was born so that our fledgeling country could survive knowing that involvement in foreign affairs and, in particular, the internal affairs of other countries could lead to protracted war and a sapping of our national treasury, or worse, invasion. We were to provide an example to the world of freedom and liberty and celebrate any nation that would join us in these attributes, but without aiding their grasp for freedom through military action.
If you all want to know the real reason for all of our fiscal and economic woes here in the U.S., then go here to this link below. (The Historical Series link on the left side of the page takes you back beyond 1989.) The politicians have been liquidating our U.S. economy EVERY MONTH of EVERY YEAR since the mid 1970s, and the U.S. has suffered more than $9.5 TRILLION imbalance of trade in goods just since 1989.
I personally know 5 retired officers who got jobs with DOD contractors after they retired from the military. While in the military everyone of them was in the position to influence a contract from their future employers. Maybe the fiscal cliff could provide a relief from some of the corruption going on, none of which the taxpayers need to pay for. next up congressmen and their second job as lobbyists.
There's a lot of fat in the military budget. It has been that way for years and cutting it would restore some sanity to defense spending. For example, we have too many generals receiving too many perks. The general public gets overawed with patriotic fervor whether or not it is deserved and the result is that politicians pander to it and escalate spending. If guys like McCain has his way, they'd raise the military budget rather than cutting it, 'course if he had his way we'd be involved in 10 wars around the globe.
I know I sound like a broken record but when our military is bigger than the combined military of the next 20 nations, our military needs some really BIG cuts. 50% sounds fine to me.
