- It just occurred to me that it is probably in the long term best interests of the United States and its allies to see Syria torn apart in a civil war, thereby effectively removing it as a threat to the middles east, without regard to who takes over after Assad. Which explains the policy thus far of the US and others to not get involved. I'm a little slow sometimes.
