District Attorney Reisen is a CHICKEN!!! He's afraid of defense lawyer John Henry Browne. Reisen's excuse for accepting a plea bargain: "I had no evidence to prove that Mr. Wilson was in there when that blood was deposited".
Whose blood? Mackenzie's Whose apartment? Chris Wilson's
Surveillance video shows Wilson leaving the hair academy less than two minutes after Mackenzie.
Geez, Reisen, you don't think a jury can put 1 + 1 together?
Chris Wilson willingly takes a **14-year** prison sentence--even he realized a jury would "hang" him.
Gutless little D.A. Reisen should be removed from office!!!
It's tragic this innocent lad is in prison while the two who murdered her and probably profited off the snuff film they created roam free. It was so clear that Liz Reid was telling the truth about the snuff film she witnessed of poor Mckenzie being murdered by Sam Quevas and Emanuel Buddha Serros and how they confessed to it. Killers love to brag about their murders. You can see in her eyes she is telling the truth. How else would she know about the knife before it was revealed to the public and how could she have know where to find McKenzies ring? Which by the way was the same ring Mckenzie wore in her photograph. I noticed when the second victim, Chris Wilson, had to lie in court to take the plea bargain to save his life, that his eyes moved to the left then to the right (when the Judge asked if he did it and he lied and said yes). I also noticed that every time Emanuel Buddha Serros lied his eyes did the same thing from left to right each time. I found that to be interesting. Liz of course looked dead on each time she told the truth about the murders and the snuff film. The Jail chaplain describes Chris as "a quiet, calm young man who is educated and well spoken." He believes Chris is innocent and he has had conversations month after month with Chris. McKenzie was 5'8", strong and a dancer. I don't believe Chris, who appears to be on the thin side, could not have done such a brutal murder of such a strong young woman with the agility of a dancer. They never said they found his DNA on the duct tape but rather there was a possibility that it could be a match and apparently there were several persons DNA on the duct tape. Law enforcement and prosecutors seemed desperate to rush through the case and frame any one who could fit the part in my opinion. Why didn't the give the responsible law enforcement a lie detector test asking if they planted the blood, if the two carpet pieces even came from Chris's apartment and if possibly they zoomed in on the carpet with the video tape adding footage onto what Chris's friend had taped. By the way, it's highly advised to videotape an apartment when moving out for purposes of ensuring getting a deposit back. As far as Chris being silent when told he was being arrested I believe that is a very normal reaction. He might have been in complete shock, he might have being praying instantly and silently, he might have chosen to be stoic in the moment or his mind might have been racing in a million directions at the time while having the wisdom to be silent until he had an attorney. But one thing is for sure, he would not have been so anxious to get to trial turning down an amazing plea bargain like he did if he was guilty. He only resorted to that in the end when he learned 85% of the Jurors thought him to be guilty. Corruption in the courts and in law enforcement is a regular happening. Perhaps someone in law enforcement, whom actually cares about justice, might go under cover on the internet snuff film arena and find Mckenzie's murder footage and set Chris free while catching the real murderers. Snuff films are especially big in the Asian markets but kept underground making access difficult. Very sad for both of these victims, McKenzie Cowell and Chris Wilson. People should go see the movie "Trade" (based on a true story) as it has similar atrocities and it is commonplace in our Country. They will be inspired to want to do something about it!
"Why didn't the give the responsible law enforcement a lie detector test asking if they planted the blood"
Why didn't police give a lie detector test to Sam Quevas and Emanuel Buddha Serros?
"As far as Chris being silent when told he was being arrested I believe that is a very normal reaction"
On the contrary, righteous anger is the correct reaction from an innocent person when accused of a crime.
"He might have been in complete shock...he might have chosen to be stoic...or his mind might have been racing in a million directions"
...or he is just a person who is void of emotion. Look at his mother when she answers questions--she is SO emotionally detached. Can you imagine the result of being raised by her?
"Liz Reid...You can see in her eyes she is telling the truth"
Which time? She has told every possible story--one version has to be true.
"How else would [Liz Reid] know about the knife before it was revealed to the public?"
She was a police informant. She probably got details about the knife from the police.
"Former police informant Liz Reid recently received a scholarship to attend the University of Washington" (from the written version of the story)
DANCINGWILLOWS, look at the biting cynicism is CBS's final comment. Drug addict...drug dealer...blatant liar...violates the Ten Commandments by bearing false witness...LIZ REID GETS A SCHOLARSHIP TO A STATE UNIVERSITY. What a lovely world in which we live.
Liz only came forward after a large reward was offered and she happily accepted the money. That ring was similar but not the same to MacKenzie and could be bought at any Target type store. Liz has a long criminal history. If she recants she will be charged with fraud and have to return the large sum of money. LE did check out Cuevas and Serros. For the most part their where abouts at the time were known and could be proven and nothing lined up, ever inch of their vehicles, lives and homes were tested. One wasn't even in town at the time and his where abouts could easily be proven. They don't know MacKenzie. Wilson wasn't on the LE radar until after the DNA showed a Paternal match. If they wanted to just frame someone they had about 4 people on the top of the list, but Wilson had a lot of evidence against him that this show didn't have time to show and the others on the list didn't. While Wilson was known to sell pot or give free beer to the underaged on occasion, there was no reason for MacKenzie to know the 2 serious felons. Wilson had talked to her and asked for information about her at the beauty shop. (Stalking? maybe) Wilson is 6 ft 5 and could easily over take MacKenzie who was chocked to near death first. He left the beauty shop less than 2 minutes after her and he lived a block or two away, just a quick stop, she could get something and be back in 15 minutes. Other DNA at the scene was found to belong to people working the crime scene. The duct tape DNA was a paternal match to Wilson, it had to be him or a male family member of his and they were checked. Blood leaks out slowly after being chocked to death, it would have just been everywhere but after 4 days all blood would have been drained or dispursed, where would LE get this blood you say they planted? There never was a snuff film. 20% of Jurors didn't have an opinion of his guilt and they interviewed hundreds and just about had a full group of inpartial jurors but he knew the gig was up. The pastor isn't a psycologist and doesn't understand how innocent and manipulative a psycopath can be. Wilson also plead guilty to chocking another women in his apartment a few months before killing MacKenzie. This wasn't his only crime.
Newster, only Liz stated on this show that she described the knife to the police before it was found or shown to the public. I don't see anyone else backing up her story.
Hate to be that guy, but what if Mackenzie's wasn't Wenatchee's perfect sweetheart? Consider this: what if she had a wild side that got her into that unfortunate trouble? I slept over at a friend's house who lived across the street from her house, back when she lived east of the river. My friend told me she was weird at night. Sure enough, we looked out the window and could see she was dancing alone in her room with colorful disco lights. Later that same night she stepped out onto her house rooftop and was dancing there. Even after that, she entered into her dad's SUV which was pointed at my friends house and she was flashing the SUV's brights at us. My friend said that another time she actually came up to his window and pounded on it and yelling. Also I remember her abandoned myspace url is "KenziLovesTheGangsters". Could that say anything about who she was hanging around and why? There had to be an reason for the brutal beating against her. Killings aren't just random, usually. Did her wild side get her into trouble with gangsters? Could a network of organized gangsters be responsible for paying off the FBI investigation team? If there was indeed a snuff video, doesn't it make sense that they'll never find it? Obviously they could have burned or disposed of it somehow. Again, I hate to be that guy, but I see loose ends and too many of them, like how do you explain the ring from her picture, etc, etc
What about the girl filming Chris's empty apartment? Was she questioned? Why didn't 48hrs interview her? I was thinking about the blood on Chris's carpet and I don't think it was planted, for a couple of reasons. First, the blood on the carpet wasn't microscopic. It wasn't a large amount, but looked to be more than what would fit in a vial. So, did the police department have multiple vials of Mackenzie's blood? Second, how did the police department get Mackenzie's blood, in a large enough amount to be poured onto a carpet? Her body was found days after her death; therefore, the blood had already pooled and mixed with other bodily fluids. I don't believe there would have been an ample amount to use on a carpet. Again, what about the girl filming his apartment?
I am also confused on this one. HOWEVER, why wasn't the girl who shot the video in Chris' apartment and so obviously said "it is clean, considering" interviewed? Gosh, it's as if 48 Hours just dismissed that fact all together. I love this show and always watch it, but it's a reoccuring thing with them. To me, the killer is now behind bars. Reid's ever-changing stories have no credibility, all things considered.
Tessa lawyered up and can't be questioned. She certainly isn't going to come forward on her own and talk or be interviewed. The law still allows time to charge her in the future.
I'm from Wenatchee, I danced with her and I don't think he killed her, but i think he could have been involved with moving her body. the two guys liz reed mentions, if the wenatchee police can hook them with wilson, then they would have a case! at the very beginning they reported the duct tape had Mackenzie, AND THREE OTHER DNA ON IT! so how can wilson be three people?? wouldn't it make sense that the two guys and wilson were on the duct tape with Mackenzie??? I wish wenatchee would of given this more time to figure out. I don't believe they did their hardest, they wanted to close the case. and gary reisen at the end admits, "we didn't have enough evidence to link cowell in wilson's apartment." so how the hell can you go thru with it since you don't have enough information?? oh and another thing, i am in NO way fascinated by death, but I love the showtime show Dexter. Wenatchee railroaded him. she was on apple ettes with me, and all of us were shocked when she went missing. she wasn't the kind of girl to just "go missing". my heart goes out to her family. i hope they find out the REAL story of what happened, because then they can truly be at peace.
The other DNA was linked to people working the case. It's impossible to not leave a little DNA no matter how careful you are. Anyone who touched or even lightly brushed against this duct tape ( and the knife) would leave DNA, even if wearing gloves, because DNA is in your sweat and skin flakes too. Wilson's was the only DNA found on it who wasn't working on the case in a legal areana. Why 48 hours didn't stress the fact that she was beleived to be stangled to death first, thus her heart stopped before she was stabbed is one thing I wonder about. Everyone keeps asking "why so little blood" She was stabbed after she was basically already deceased, without the heart to pump your blood in leaks out slowly.

Annette, as a criminal justice major I'm sure you understand that you can't possibly have learned all of the information regarding this case in 42:18 of commentary about it. Keirina, on what do you base your belief he was framed? I live near Wenatchee, and know Reed Cowell, and ached with the entire community as we mourned the death of Mackenzie and prayed they would find her murderer. I assure you there were many things that 48 Hours did not include in their story. Do I know, with complete certainty, that Christopher Wilson is guilty? No. I did not hear ALL of the evidence. But I would encourage you to look at the cases that John Henry Browne takes...and how they end. They are usually high profile cases with high stakes, and he typically gets his clients plea bargains for greatly reduced sentences. If there was nothing there, I seriously doubt he would have taken the case. Just sayin'.
From what I saw, and I live in Moses Lake, WA, there was DNA at the scene in Crescent bar and at the apartment. What I don't understand is this Liz woman, why in the world would they believe anything this woman had to say, and on a side note in the ending credits it said she got a scholarship to University of Washington? How the hell does that happen to a drug addled, snitch, who can't tell the truth? Makes me wonder? I am sure she didn't have an adequate IQ to get into the University. Amazing that living only 100 miles away and never had a clue that all this was going on, all we heard was that this boy had been arrested and convicted. Have to say I don't believe a single word this Liz had to say!
"I am sure she didn't have an adequate IQ to get into the University."
You don't understand the American higher education system nowadays. EVERYONE has an adequate IQ to get in.
Universities in the U.S. are about education secondarily. They are first and foremost about BUSINESS. Everyone gets admitted. Everyone must pay for the first year--that's a huge amount of income. Then, the professors decide who stays and who gets kicked out...a job previously performed by the Admissions Office in the good ole days.
I don't know how Liz got her "scholarship" but there are MANY government programs out there that pay the unemployed and yes even felons to go to school. Reform? Some use it for good, some just take advanate of it.
I think this was a sham. The town needed a murderer so the cops chose the town outsider. The DNA supposedly found at the supposed site of the murder was not conclusive. I think the defense was derelict in it's support of the accused. Was the defense not aware that the prosecution couldn't put the accuse in the room with the victim at the time of the murder? Why was there no change of venue? Was that Liz ever charged with giving false witness to the cops? How did the cops link Chris to the duct tape through DNA? Was his DNA in their files before the murder? I have had cops try to plant evidence in my home to support their false charges. I don't believe the cops or Liz. Bottom line, one is no longer innocent until proven guilty in the USA; Anyone can accuse anyone of anything and the accused then has to PROVE their innocent. Thank you for letting me share.
