- US marijuana laws are unconscionable, especially in light of the fact that alcohol and cigarettes are legal. As usual, it's all about the money. Pot has 200 medicinal applications, including but not limited to MS, cancer, inflammation, pain and the wasting away caused by diseases such as cancer and AIDS. Cigarettes and alcohol have NONE. Cigarettes cause a half-million deaths every year in this country alone; there is not a single documented case of anyone overdosing on pot or a cancer victim. Nixon ignored his own government study that said it was harmless because he thought, if he could arrest all of the pot-smokers, he could eliminate Vietnam protesters. Pot is less addictive than caffeine and can be used to quit smoking cigarettes, so the poison-peddlers are against it. It's a plant that can't be patented, so the pharmaceutical companies - also poison peddlers - are against it. Over 100k people are killed by pharmaceuticals in this country annually. Hemp, which has no intoxicating effects, can be used to make paper that will still be like new 100 years from now and could go a long way toward mitigating deforestation and global warming. It also makes the most durable clothing, among other things. The US has 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prison population. Building a private, for-profit prison in this country is one of the best investments to be had. We're kicking child molestors and other violent offenders out of prison to make room for lifers convicted for possession of a single joint and destroying families. When is the last time you've heard of anyone smoking pot and beating their family? How many charges of domestic abuse arise out of drinking? One-fifth of the children in the richest country in the world live in poverty while their government pours BILLIONS of dollars into law enforcement just to eradicate a harmless plant. There are more children in rehab for pot than any other drug because, when they're caught, they're offered a choice: prison or rehab. That's a no-brainer even for someone with a buzz. Pot doesn't cause psychosis; money and power do. But know this, and know it well: to harm and dishonor your fellow man is to harm and dishonor your God and yourself. Life is continuous. You will become what you condemn and live every ounce of the pain you cause others, if not in this life then the next. This country is run by a bunch of spineless, greedy, petulant children. Wake up and grow up or get out of the way.
